Not sure if this was suggested but maybe you can do appetizers and beer/wine and say that explicitly in the invite....that will let people know the main course is on them. The biggest problem is letting the restaurant staff know ahead of time...they hate splitting bills of larger parties. Maybe you will get lucky and someone will offer to pay
