The term "Pimped" used by the medical field

Turf's another word I learned from House of God. Along with my favorite, LOL in NAD (little old lady in no apparent distress). If you haven't read it, you should pick up a copy. Not exactly accurate, but it introduces you to a lot of terminology that you'll hear from your spouse.Laurie

I think the photos in academic cases are pretty routine. It is in the consent here. DH actually got NIH grant money for film equipment and computers to record and present cancer cases. Believe me, no one can be identified in these pictures....they are pathology only. They are used in presentations in house, at conferences and in papers. They are on his computer and his phone....and thank goodness we have two! I wouldn't want them on mine! (Obviously, we've got them too, Syl!)Angie

Another one I heard a lot was "gunner" to describe someone who would run over anyone to get ahead...not to be confused with a hard worker who is smart and good..."gunner" is a negative term.
I love that someone else gets gross pictures on their screensaver...although our pictures aren't from a vaginaGwen

We get trauma pics. DH has a great habit of showing me new pics right before dinner. Honestly, he's lucky that I'm fairly un-phased, but there are definitely a lot of blood and guts on his computer.-Deb
Wife to EP, just trying to keep up with my FOUR busy kids!

Radiologists from the generation before dh's residency class always pronounce centimeter as "SON-teh-meter". It sounds soooo pretentious. And, if you didn't say it that way in residency you were the odd person out! I am fairly certain dh does NOT use that pronunciation when he is dictating nowdays.
DH and I were hanging pics in the new house. He measured something and told me it was 25 "son-teh-meters" long. I looked over and said "excuse me what was that you just said." He then repeated it again. I went on to ask him why he says it like that. These were his exact words "All the other doctors do it." A sat the picture down and called him a "idiot" and walk out.
I think he must have got the hint, because I have yet to hear the word again, even after 3 more pictures were hung.

OMG-
I can't believe he said that out loud.
Did you laugh out loud before you called him an idiot?

PS- I feel the same way about the word "emergent". It's pretentious doctor-talk. Who else in this world talks about things using emergent. "The Emergent Press Release". "The Emergent Tax Return." "The Emergent Trip to the Grocery Store."

Yeah, "gunner" implies a pointlessly competitive person. Someone who looks for a fight and compulsively feels the need to show everyone how smart he is. In medical school, it is an insult. In law school, it is a state of reality for about 40% of the population.
