    Saunters in...hikes up pants...

I'm a HS graduate and a college drop out. I'm a baby mama. Or as jenn says, I went to the school of life, baby. So put that in yer pipe and smoke it.

yeah, I have zero desire to go back to school. Zip. Zero. Zilch. When we're rich and rolling in the green stuff, I want to have a *very small* animal rescue. I will focus on horses and dogs. My love in life...animals. (but mostly horses and dogs...maybe a cat, or donkey. But mostly I'm and equine and canine lov-ah)
Where's heidi? I'm sure she's puking right now.

And if I have one more person give me the look or lecture me for choosing to "just" stay at home and raise my kids. We also have a family friend who feels that my two Masters are not enough and that I "need" to get a Ph.D. Yeah, let me work on a Ph. D that I don't need or want while I have two small kids and a husband in residency. She by the way dropped out of her program to work in her husband's medical office. People are a trip!

Wow, I wasn't expecting so many replies! It's so great to hear that people have had successful searches after moving. I LOVE my job right now, but we're in a kind of blaa midwestern location. We hope to move to Boston (where SO is from) & I know that the market for higher ed jobs there is rough, even though there are a HUGE number of schools there. I figure I should be able to get SOMETHING within a few months, but I'm nervous about having to take a lesser position in order to just have a job. I guess we'll have to wait and see though. Thanks for all the support!

I also might have to take a new exam becuase Texas has their own, and they use the Praxis up here. So here I am, job hunting in a career that if you dont get a job by the start of school, youre just going to have to do something else and substitute for a year and try again the following year.
You have probably already figured this out, but DC has a ton of charter and private schools, which are a lot more flexible in hiring. You might be able to find something there.

ETA: PM me if you want some school names.

As someone who lives in Boston PT, I wouldn't worry about finding a job in higher ed in Boston. There are literally 60-70 schools within a 20 mile radius. Plus, most schools have graduate schools that have completely separate staffs. My good friend in Boston works for a small graduate program at Tufts and she's had a great experience. Plus the Harvard Ed school holds great seminars, etc. that she's attended (she is not a student there).

Mama to C (Jan 2012), D (Nov 2013), and R (April 2016). Consulting and homeschooling are my day jobs.

Not sure if you are on the academic side or student affairs side of things, but if you are on the student affairs side, you may want to consider joining one of the many professional organizations out there. There are a plethora of them - NASPA, ACPA are two of the big ones - and there are other smaller ones based upon what your niche is within student affairs. I was a part of one that was basically for orientation directors and went to one of their regional conferences (with 50 students, woohoo). They are great for networking and learning about potential job openings at other institutions. I found a decent list of higher ed professional organizations on studentaffairs.com: http://www.studentaffairs.com/web/profes.html.

And don't worry about having to take a lesser position - I'm sure that your resume will speak for itself and you will land a great job!

BS in Biomedical Engineering with a MBA kicker...been working as an Engineer / Project Manager ever since school let out. I have a bit more flexible schedule, but we are blessed to have an interactive ma-in-law to take on daily oversight of the DS.

Considering returning to school for that elusive PhD...physics maybe?

I had a boring (but much loved) major. I live vicariously through people with exciting majors.

                                I missed this thread earlier.

I have a BS in Geology and a MS in Hydrology. Not so family friendly (lots of travel and site work), so I don't know if I'll work in the field again. Ideally I would like to teach at college level one day, part time of course I am now a SAHM.

I was very lucky and found a great job in my field when we moved for intern year, a few months before a hiring freeze took effect. When we moved AGAIN for residency I wanted to stay home, which is good because I doubt that I would find a job now anyway!

                                Welcome to our site.
