Baby #3 is coming on the 27th. I"m just glad that the kids have Halloween costumes ready and there is candy in the house to hand out (hopefully it won't all get eaten while I'm in the hospital). DD's birthday is 11/10, and DS's is 12/3, so I've started shopping a little for those, but Christmas is not even on the horizon. Oh, and I'm hosting Thanksgiving this year, less than a month post c-section. Who started this thread? I was very happy living in my land of denial!

So excited for Thanksgiving!! It's my favorite holiday. Lots of food and not a ton of money spent on gifts. Last year was a bit of a bust since I was 1.5 weeks post delivery and very sleep deprived. I can't wait to enjoy it this year. Christmas, I can't think about...I am always shopping at the last minute for gifts.Danielle

I'm already getting excited to start picking out/designing our holiday cards. (I swear, I'm beginning to think the cards are my favorite part of the holidays.)
For the past three years I've found New York-themed Christmas cards at various little shops in Manhattan (we moved here from California for med school, so I've been trying to give a nod to that in the cards we send out to friends and family back home). But this year, I'm thinking of designing the cards myself online and doing away with the New York theme. Or maybe just using a New York-themed return address sticker instead.
Anyways, do you all send out holiday cards? And if so, where do you usually get your cards?

My parents tried to get me to fly home for thanksgiving, but J cooked a turkey by himself last year, and I didn't really want to leave him alone this year, so I decided not to. I am just hoping J has the day off, and if not... oh well. I'm pretending I'm not that concerned about it.
As for x-mas, I offered to pick up others hours at work since I don't celebrate. Yay overtime!-L.Jane

Yes! I love Christmas cards. Designing/assembling/addressing ours is going to be my fun little evening project while DH does his surgery rotation (starting next week). I'm kind of obsessed with Paper Source right now. I've ordered party invitations from there a lot, and I've been pleased with the quality. Plus, there are lots of options for creativity-- adding envelope liners, fun labels, stamps, embossing etc. I'll probably start looking there, but I'd definitely be interested in other recommendations.

Speaking of holiday traditions we have a few here, too-
We do a card exchange, a cookie exchange and a secret santa. The card exchange is low-key, the cookie exchange is fun- you make and send cookies to three people and they do the same for you. It makes it a lot of fun to get the mail, that's for sure. The secret santa is also fun- we go CHEAP- like $10. We give hints every day in a thread designed for just secret santa.
I'm the keeper of the card list so if you're interested, send me a PM. I'll put up a reminder, too.

You should check it out next time YH goes to the academic B&N.
I'm totally looking forward to the holidays - Christmas is the only upside to winter in NYC. That said, I still have so much to do before, so I'd be okay with this autumn being drawn out a little! (I know we have that extra hour coming up in a couple weeks...)Back in the Midwest with my PGY-2 ortho DH and putting my fashion degree to good use.

I love the holidays! I decorate for Christmas right after thanksgiving. I don't have many decorations because we have been moving so much (and don't have much storage space) but maybe I can add a few more this year.
We don't have any big plans, I just hope DH will be around! I think he is post call on thanksgiving. My MIL may visit from Brazil for thanksgiving (but she wants to stay a whole month!).
I haven't done cards before but maybe I will this year! I'm looking forward to seeing how Christmas is in ChicagoWife to Anesthesia PGY4
