  • Point and shoot cameras

I really want to get a point and shoot digital camera in the next day or so to take on a trip next week. I don't want to take our SLR. The choice is overwhelming! If anyone has one that they love I would really appreciate your recommendations. I want something with a good screen on the back, and really compact, and with an optical zoom, although they probably all have these now. I don't want to spend too much either....

    Thanks!!

I love Olympus point-and-shoot cameras. I highly recommend stopping at Costco (if you have one and are a member) because they have great deals on cameras.

    Good luck!

I just purchased a Fujifilm F70 EXR the other day. It has a 10x optical zoom which is what sold me on it. I think the colors are a bit cooler than reality, but overall, the quality is great.

At Best Buy, it is marketed under the F72, I believe, private label marketing...

I've had good luck with Sony and Canon. I had one really good Fujifilm and one really bad one. Not a fan of the Nikon point and shoots.

To be honest, this camera below doesn't have the best image quality compared to a regular camera, but if you are going on a trip anytime soon that will involve lots of water, you might think about it. It SHOOTS UNDERWATER! It worked great for me--the pictures attached were taken with it in Destin.

It takes pretty good video too!

We've always had Canon until we got a Sony Cybershot a year and a half ago. Last week, I purchased another Canon to replace the Sony - the Sony just could keep up with my kiddos. All of the pictures turned out blurry.

DH and I are Canon fans. I got the SD 940 for Christmas. I needed a little camera that I could fit in my pocket or purse, but I wanted a larger screen. The SD 940 is more pricey than the 1200, but it has a 2.7 inch screen, and more zoom and pixels. It is TINY! Now if only DH and I could get away for a while to do something fun so I can use it!

Love this! We pretty much use our extended zoom camera-- it's not as small as a point and shoot but not as big as a SLR. It's the Panasonic Lumix. My mom bought the point and shoot Lumix too-- and it's great. I like the zoom on these types of cameras. I don't like the photo editing software, but who uses that anymore anyway?

I would love a point and shoot that does the underwater, but I've never pulled the trigger b/c of the price. thanks for this review-- looks fun!!!!

I also have an Olympus point and shoot that I am passing on to my kiddos. It drives me nuts consistently. It's old, though. The video on it is horrid. And the uploading is... painful. I think it's b/c it's old.

My DD has a Canon powershot. It's very solid, and she takes great pics with it. It was under $80-- a clearance thing b/c of the color, I think. She bought it with her own $, takes it with her EVERYWHERE, and it works great over 1 year later. That's a new record for her and electronics.

I have a Kodak EasyShare that has 10X optical zoom -- great for a non-slr digital camera! It was less than $300 but isn't very compact, though not as big as an SLR.

I'm also a fan of Canon Powershots; the salesguy I talked to when I was researching cameras told me that Canon makes the best point-and-shoots out there.

After doing lots of research, I just bought a Powershot SD780. So far I've been very happy with it, it's tiny (it's the size of a credit card and the width of a DVD case!) and takes good pictures and good video. It's a great camera.

That's exactly why I'm also looking to replace my Sony Cybershot. It takes forever to focus and I have to hold absolutely still or everything is blurry. Off to look at Cannons.

We also have a Canon, its the SD800IS, I like it so much that when it crapped out because I had dropped it one to many times I went out and bought another one JUST like it.

I bought it in September, and so far ... so good!
