I've always had the best experience with Canon p&s cameras. I had an older model powershot that was a little bulky by today's standards but I absolutely loved that camera, it could do anything. I have a Sony right now (I was suckered in by a good deal on it) and it gets the job done, but the quality and the features aren't nearly as good as the Canon's I've had in the past. Once this one craps out on me I'll be going back to Canon.

I'm still in search for a perfect Canon. It seems that every model I look into has a bunch of terrible reviews complaining about picture quality. I'm more confused than when I started looking.

Radwife and migirl, are you still happy with the ones you got earlier this year (end of last one)?

We had a canon and lived the pics but we when you have a child like outs who occasionally drops it, you are likely to rub into the lens issue we had. Some folks have complained about the lens problem. While in warranty, canon is amazing and quick to repair. Once out of warranty, you might as well buy a bee camera. I really miss my canon

Yeah, as far as point-and-shoot cameras go, I still like mine a lot. It takes good pictures and is easy to use.

We just bought the relatively new G12 and LOVE it. DH typically shoots medium format film cameras and is a total snob about picture quality, and even he is impressed with it.

My Kodak died. We replaced it with the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS. Love it! 14X optical zoom.

My ds bought the Canon Powershot A720IS about a year or two ago and it is a great camera. Beautiful pictures, great zoom, and he has made several video presentations for school using this camera. Can't remember how long the video clips can be but I think they are pretty long. We have the original Canon SLR and while it is a great camera we more often reach for ds camera, lol.

Here is the Amazon link (it has over 300 reviews and an almost 5 star rating):

DD1 has been begging for a digital camera for eons. DH and I finally broke down and got her a Kodak EasyShare C183 for Christmas. Even if it's a total POS, it has to be better than the crappy, 6 y/o HP camera she's been using.

I have a Casio Exilim Zoom that my husband bought me for our first Christmas together 4 years ago. I love it. I've never had any problems with it, the picture quality is great, it takes pretty long videos, it's got really cool built in filters you can use to take pictures. My favorite is "autumn leaves" it's a red filter that works really well for the scenery out here. It's also got settings for action shots and night shots and such. I would highly recommend it but only because it's sturdy, easy to use and I like it, not because I have any expertise in this matter.

Tara, that's the one we used to have before switching to Sony. I love it until it broke. It was a bit clunky to carry though.

Veronica, some of the Amazon reviews complained about picture quality and the pop-up flash. Do you find that the shutter speed can keep up with the kids?

The older Canon models have much better reviews than the newer ones. This is so frustrating. Why can't they just keep the models that everyone loves instead of replacing them with the ones that most aren't crazy about?

Pic quality is great. Shutter speed is as well as any other I've had. The only down on the flash is you have to get used to not holding that side if the camera because you hold the flash down. It isn't a big deal to me. I love it!

Bumping this thread... Okay, so I think I'm going to ask DH for a P&S for Christmas. My priorities are optical zoom and how fast it actually takes the picture after pushing the button. (Is there a technical term for that???) It drives me crazy when I'm trying to take a picture of my kids with my parents' or in-laws' cameras, and by the time it actually takes the picture, they're halfway across the room! That's actually what sold me on my Rebel, but it's just so big to carry around, and for everyday stuff, I just use the kit lens, so the picture quality isn't really better than I think I'd get with a point and shoot.

Sorry for the rambling question. The last posts were from a couple years ago, so I thought I'd see what everyone is using/recommending now.

Let me ask my FIL, I'm sure it was pricey but he got a GREAT P&S before we went to Ireland and it took FABULOUS pictures.

I have a Canon from years ago and still works great. I'm a fan. Then again, I know nothing about cameras except pointing and shooting so...
