  • The Universe is telling me to get a Mac

I am kicking myself for being so dang cheap when we needed a new computer last year, and I got a Dell... Everything frustrates me more and more with the PC these days. DH wants me to get a Mac (so he can use it-- he's that in love with his iPhone).

The PC just doesn't work with my pictures, half the time it misses the video clips and downloads them as just a crappy image, and Picasa, which i used to love, doesn't really work with my camera either. It gets so that I dread downloading pictures off of my camera because it's such a PITA, and I have to use 3 programs to get everything together...

And now the stupid antivirus software has messed up all my settings, so I have to go to help menus and read how to open a frickin file.

    Waaaah.

I'm waiting until DH is back from Houston and then we're going to get that Mac. I have soooo had it. So done. The PC in the living room will be officially relinquished to the kids. I barely get on it while they are home anyway. I don't want to share anymore!!

I'm so frustrated right now. I would pay MORE than the mark-up of a Mac to have everything. just. work. DH and I are not techy people, we know that and we are OK with that.

Got any college kids in your family or extended family? If they order for you, you'll get about a $100 discount and a free ipod touch right now.

I love my mac--the picture software is the best. I plug in any camera, and it automatically detects it and downloads the pictures. Iphoto is awesome for making them look great, too!
And I love that I can plug in any printer and the mac automatically recognizes it and prints to it with no issues or drivers. Alleluia!

Peggy- order from aafes.com and have it there when he gets home. Don't waste another moment.

We actually qualify for this discount thru DH's work. I'm pricing it to see if it's cheaper to do it this way or through the aafes.com (military) way...

This is really hard for me. I am so used to PC. I used to do freelance web design, and I am a heavy, heavy computer user. For Christmas this year, my MIL got a new MacBook, and so she gave me her old one. I have been using it (hello...free), and I hate it. It is so obnoxious. I find it super frustrating that I will go to a website and not be able to see it because it needs to run on internet explorer. I have found software that just doesn't come on a mac. Furthermore, I've been frustrated because my son will have things that are done on his PC for school, and my mac just won't handle them. There just isn't as much available for a mac still. And, stupid things, I am used to PC shortcuts and right clicks.

Chad really, really wants our next home computer to be a iMac. Meanwhile because of the EMR software, PACS, and other things that we will need to run his office, the business will have all PCs. I don't want to try to take something home to work on it and not be able to because we have a Mac at home. Chad keeps telling me that he can not only run the Mac OS on a new Mac, but he can run WIndows as well. Well, that just seems over complicated and convoluted, and like a strain on the computer that will just cause me headaches. I don't want to have to worry about where I am saving it and what format I am saving it in, logging off of profiles, getting into the right OS, etc.

On the other hand, our last PC sits on the computer desk in the living room, largely dormant, because it sounds like a freaking jet engine. It is old and has its own issues that really make me want to forget the whole thing and convert to Mac. Plus, I am in LOVE with my iphone. Love. I'm just not there yet with the computer, and I am frustrated that I can't make a decision about the whole thing.

I know... It's destined to be.

Heidi, I understand what you're saying bc my sibs who are all very techy and just *get* computers all much prefer their PCs. They of course can just tell the comptuer what to do using secret language (dos I think?). I'm definitely not there. I get so frustrated with layer upon layer of help menus. Yesterday, AFTER my extreme frustration with Windows Photo Studio stuff, I tried to open a file that I knew was safe, but it was 2003 Office instead of 2007, and it took me 45 minutes of looking at help menus to figure out how to allow myself to open this stupid file that I needed... I think that problem was due to uber special security settings needed for all the viruses, but usually I had been able to just click *Open it I don't care if it fries my computer or whatever because I know who sent me the file and I know what the file is*. I seriously wanted to cry. I just want the stupid thing to work.

But for people who talk to the computer and it obeys them, like my siblings, they like a PC better. ???

The only thing that scares me about the Mac is that if we get a problem (like a virus, or like a network situation) maybe my brother won't be able to help us as easily. (he's our tech guy- he debugs our computers every time he comes here. He looks forward to the challenge...)
