We've pretty much been Mac exclusive for the last 18 years and I have never had a virus on any of our computers and never had a problem that either I couldn't fix myself, the Apple people could help over the phone, or the last step is the Genius bar at the Apple store.

Once you go Mac, you never go back *geek!*

DH is considering one - I've been Mac only since 2004, and have also never had a virus, HD crash, etc.
To solve IE problems (which I don't like), I just use Firefox instead of IE or Safari. I'm a Mozilla fan, but that's for another thread.

So Mac people- do you use a virus protection software? Our cable internet connection comes with Norton now- they switched from McAfee. But do you install it? (I mean when you say virus free, what kind of protection do you use to get virus free...)

We do not have virus protection on my computer or DH's (which is institution issued) and we've never had a virus - we're going on two years of having ours.

Heidi, yes - use Firefox you shouldn't' have any issues. I use Safari and rarely have an issue. I have the Mac version of MS Office and while its not the same as the PC version it works just as well, even better because it doesn't crash all the time. However I prefer the Mac iWork suite, Pages in particular.

Switching takes some getting used to but now that I'm here I love it.

Have never used virus protection with our Macs, and I never have to "reboot" during the day (or ever).

Re: The Universe is telling me to get a Mac

To solve the right click issue we bought a mouse that allows us to right click on our mac. We also bought Office for mac so Russ could do PowerPoint stuff for rounds. Once I figured out that the menu bars and minimize were in different spots than on a PC, it was easy to use. I think our iMac is way intuitive for me. We also use Firefox. I love my Pimpzilla skin!!!

Nope--dude at the Apple Store actually took it off my old Macbook--said it was making it run slow.

I've been using a PC for so long that to hear of computing without using virus protection--- it's kind of shocking. I would love to ditch the virus protection software.... We were without virus protection for approximately 18 hours (due to the cable company switching virus protection software companies and we didn't realize that) so we did a deep system scan (took about 2 hours) and while there were no viruses or worms there were 88 *tracking cookies* from questioable sources...

We are willing to look at Cerner (didn't even cross my mind), does he want to give dh a demo? We haven't committed to anything yet, but were thinking of going with Athena.

I'll ask. I'm not sure how it works (as far as sourcing new customers) b/c dh isn't involved w/any of that. But I'm sure we can find out!
