The word on the street is that enough of us have been emailing TJs for long enough that they've taken notice and are just waiting for downtown to reach a certain mass of people- which shouldn't be a problem- and then we'll get a TJs!

I'm so excited that I think I'll email them again.

For CO, I think it has something to do with the extent of the laws regarding the sale of alcohol. There are specific limits to what can be sold in grocery stores (I was not used to this - being from CA where nothing like this exists, except for the 21 or over law) as well as restrictions on the number of grocery stores in a certain area that can carry x quantity of alcohol. (I think!) Other than that, I think they would flourish here in CO, but I don't think they want to deal with CO alcohol laws. I know when someone in my office got a TJ's care package from family I was the first at his desk "Any Joe-Joes?!" Of course, he had the peppermint Joe-Joes *and* he shared. Plenty of ppl here still love TJs and Ikea.

They have them in Maryland and most counties (if not all) counties in Maryland control liquor and wine/beer sales so NO grocery store can sell anything alcoholic. In fact the county I grew up in (Montgomery) the county OWNS the liquor stores. They're not going to give up that cash cow! Even Costco can't sell booze in MD.

See I would think the Kansas issue is an alcohol issue too but they don't allow liquor in MN grocery stores either and they're here the wine is just a separate store in the same building. If its a liquor issue then they should put one on the MO side of the Kansas City line, I would love to know what their issue is the with the KC market.

One of my neighbors said that it's 100% related to population density which is why they don't believe that we have enough density downtown yet but the 'burbs are saturated with grocery stores. If they would move downtown, they'd be the only game in town, or at least downtown. Here the other rumor is that Mr. Charles Butts of the HEButts grocery chain (aka HEB for you Texans) lives in the 'hood and there's some agreement but Jeez- the man has to eat, too, right?

It's related to where they have their distribution centers. Cheri - I'm sure when we get one it will be on the MO side, but seeing as how I've driven from Cleveland to Columbus for tj'sbefore, going to the MO side isn't an issue for me.
