I never understood this tradition, but then again, I wasn't born here.

The mums or the giant mum thing?

I wasn't born in TX either but I thought the HC mums are kind of festive....then again, they were never that gigantic when I was in school. Haven't seen that ever - maybe it is a regional/city thing??
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

Yeah, when I would visit my Dallas family, I was always like, um, what the heck is this? I think the smaller simpler ones were nice, the bigger ones were creepy.

I have never in my life seen this before and thought you were referring to the mums we all have on our porch in the fall.

Everything has to be bigger in Texas... Yeah, those are crazy huge - especially the one with shoulder straps that went front and back! Yikes! In my hometown, they are much smaller, the round piece being maybe 6 inches wide, and just a few long ribbons.

This is what I have seen at the HomeComing games in TX.....AND there is an actual mum (flower) kind of like a larger corsage.

Oh, gads--those things are SO HIDEOUS. Really bad. I mean, just awful. Back when I was teaching high school in Dallas, they were so distracting that the girls were forbidden from wearing them to school on the day before homecoming. I kid you not--some of them had battery-operated LIGHTS and music.

They sell all of the supplies at Michaels and every year there's more and more stuff to attach.

                  Silly.

Some girls wore backpacks all day to balance the weight. The bells in the hallway would drive everyone nuts. My brother spent about $50 just on supplies for the relatively "normal" sized one my sister helped him make for his girlfriend--buying it would have cost about $200. Good way to make money, though.

That's, uh, CRAZY! They aren't even attractive, flattering, pretty, make a person smell good ... I see no redeeming value. And please, who wears all black to work with white feathers?

Didn't watch the whole video, but I live in (and grew up in) Collin County. We like our mums big. I have no idea why though. We just do.

This must be another crazy texas thang. I've never heard of mums way up north, in the hinterlands.
