There are so few medical spouses from NYC, Boston, Northern Cali on here? While doing the regional board stuff last week I realized how few folks there are from the cities I have lived in - NYC and Boston. So many medical schools and programs but so few spouses on here. I am getting jealous of you Kansas city folks who seem to have a significant cohort.... Why is this?

Just a guess, but based on our plans for applying for residencies and talking to DH's friends, I would think that perhaps fewer attached/married medical students aim for large, expensive cities. That seems like something you might be more likely to do when you're single than when you've already got a signficant other and a family. This translates to fewer medical spouses in those areas.Married to a Urology Attending! (that is an understated exclamation point)

It's the same in S. Cal. and I agree that these cities attract more single residents. But also, most of the other residents are from here, so even those that are married have their families around and so would be less likely to need the support that most of us have got from this site. That's what I have noticed anyway.

I don't know. Most residents I've met here are single. I'm sure that's part of it but I think many just don't think to look online for a support group too.Wife to Hand Surgeon just out of training, mom to two lovely kittys and little boy, O, born in Sept 08.

I have told a bunch of other resident spouses about this site and even with my glowing recommendation they seem to be a little wary because it is an "online" thing. Which I think is funny because most of these people are very into FB and other "online" social sites. I was wary at first too, I'm not even on FB, but I clearly got over it and find this site to be an invaluable part of residency so far. I think they are just missing out!!!!

Jen, I don't think you're being selfish. Ask Deebs we were friends in real life and I never told her (or my other spouse friends) about this site. She found it after they moved away. I too feel I can be more open on here because there aren't other spouses from my program on here. There are a couple at my location but they don't post often.Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

This is so funny. DH always asks if I've told this person or that person about iMSN, and I so selfishly hog you all to myself! I'm really glad that Suzy Sunshine is on here because we wouldn't be in touch anymore, probably, otherwise, but I don't blame her at all for not telling me about it. I also think it might be hard to share some of the really personally things on here that we do and then see a member out and about.-Deb
