For me, it was about wanting to make sure that anyone who was "south of the mason-dixon line" was someone we weren't going to see socially. Now, when I go to the doctor, I see a FM resident. When the FM residents do a peds rotation, the kids see them too. I definitely think it is important to allow residents to learn - but it would have been awkward for me, socially to have a resident or student as part of the delivery team. But, I guess I did since E actually caught Sophie.Kris

My BF also delivered a bunch o'babies in school.
I would absolutely let a med student or resident deliver my hypothetical child, as long as I didn't personally know any of them (same goes for attendings). How the heck else are they supposed to learn? If nobody lets them do anything, they'll turn into crappy doctors! (Ok, slight exaggeration, but still, they gotta learn somehow!).I'm just trying to make it out alive!
