DD1 had a blast yesterday. Her French teacher went all out so the kids learned how various MG traditions have French roots (duh, but they're teenagers in a small city so I can see why she'd point that out), various symbolism, and food. Kids got to try king cake, beignets, jambalaya, and red beans & rice. DD1 loves her French class.

My southern friends (who made red beans and rice) informed me that they don't like king cake. I've never had it either! I was even at a Mardi Gras-themed birthday party this weekend, where they had a king cake. But we forgot about it!

So, someone brought half a king cake into my office. We're Byzantine Catholic so Lent started for us on Monday with a strict fast (no animal products). I wish I could maintain that throughout but it's really tricky with small kids, plus I get migraines if I eat too lightly.Comment
