DD1 had a blast yesterday. Her French teacher went all out so the kids learned how various MG traditions have French roots (duh, but they're teenagers in a small city so I can see why she'd point that out), various symbolism, and food. Kids got to try king cake, beignets, jambalaya, and red beans & rice. DD1 loves her French class.

My southern friends (who made red beans and rice) informed me that they don't like king cake. So it was not part of our little get-together last night, and I have still never tried it.

I've never had it either! I was even at a Mardi Gras-themed birthday party this weekend, where they had a king cake. But we forgot about it!
I'm just trying to make it out alive!

So, someone brought half a king cake into my office. I'm fasting for Ash Wednesday and won't be trying it, but Crystal, apparently you can get them at King Soopers.

We're Byzantine Catholic so Lent started for us on Monday with a strict fast (no animal products). I wish I could maintain that throughout but it's really tricky with small kids, plus I get migraines if I eat too lightly.
