  • Because the dawkter isn't home:

Feel free to add your own but this is my gem for the night-

He's at poker night. I heard something under the stairs. I open the door to the closet under the stairs and there is a baby possum sitting on the unopened bag of dog food. Not a tiny baby but more like a teenager possum. (Teenager possum gang initiation- go steal dog food from a house with three cats and two dogs?) So the cat (Gonzo- my big teenager cat) goes in the closet and the possum runs off (so glad he didn't 'play possum') and it took me 20 minutes to get the cat out of the closet.

I HATE rodents- even 'good ones' like possums are (they eat mice and cockroaches, along with the very expensive dog food) so I'm totally skeeved out. I am such a girl. I called the good dawkter and told him he needed to cut the poker game short and get home.

Is the closet in your house??? I'm kind of freaking out for you. Please tell me it's some kind of outside closet.

And, go to the pet store tomorrow and get the airtight container to put the food in. I have it to keep mice out because those freak me out. Can't even imagine a possum. Ew, ew, ew!

Yep the closet is actually in my dining room. and apparently the possums dining room, too. We found a possum skeleton outside this summer- and holy crap- yes those teeth are hideous! The cat is seriously determined to get back in the closet, too. He's all offended.

Holy cow!! I would have completely freaked out, locked the animals in the bedroom, locked the opossum back in the closet (not kidding), and made DH immediately come home to deal with it. You did great!

I think I'm better off not knowing how it snuck inside your house past all your pets. YIKES!

Oh, so totally freaked out right now. Heck, I've considered asking DrK to come home to kill a spider. (Suspected brown recluse spider but still, not a opossum.)

We have a hole in the closet floor that is open to the underneath part of the house. San Antonio historic homes are all pier and beam foundations w/ crazy nasty crawl spaces under them. And my Mr. Fix-it husband figured stuffing something in the hole would keep out the pests. Guess who will be buying a bit of plywood tomorrow on his way home from work.

Uh, yeah -- that shit needs to get sealed off.

                            Ew.

I'm impressed J, you might be my hero. Here I was super proud of myself for killing a creepy, crawly 2 inch centipede in my basement earlier. You took on a giant rodent. You win, hands down. UGH!!!
