I think we all have fears that could seem weird to someone else. I associate cemeteries with fond memories (my grandparents owned one when I was little and I liked the quiet and floved rollerskating in the mausoleum), but cicadas scare the fuck out of me. Talk about irrational...

True story:
During open house my Kindergarten year, mom kept noticing people going up to a kid's drawing, reading the caption, and walking away crying. She couldn't figure WTH was going on until she walked up to it herself. She discovered a lovely rendering of a picnic with green hills, blue skies, smiling sun, colorful flower -- and head stones. The caption: "Having Lunch With Grandma and Grandpa by Wendy A."
Mom stood there all night explaining to anyone who'd listen that grandma and grandpa were still alive and OWNED the cemetery. My poor mom. And Kindergarten teacher. Same woman had to figure out how to deal with me telling my classmates that my mom was a zookeeper. She was a nurse, but always talked about how work was a zoo...Last edited by diggitydot; 09-14-2011, 09:09 PM.

Diggity - I can totally relate!
When I was a kid, my folks ran a short-term placement foster home for the county. There were typically 8 teen-aged boys living there at any given time. My family portraits often showed all of them in addition to my biological family. Mom had some pretty interesting conversations with the teacher.Kris

I think I would be freaked out, too! The thing is, I've actually stayed there, but I didn't know anything about the reported hauntings. The only bad thing that happened was DH got sick overnight from dinner, so I missed out on what was supposed to be my first full night of sleep since DS was born! I hope you're able to sleep, but I don't know if I would be able to, either, knowing some people have experienced weird things there. We have a guest bedroom (that we still haven't gotten around to making into DD's bedroom...) if you decide not to stay at the hotel!Laurie
My team: DH (anesthesiologist), DS (9), DD (8)

Everything in San Antonio is haunted. Someone keeps turning on my ceiling fan and ceiling lights. (and TV) and it's obviously people who don't have to pay the electric bill. Maybe they were from a time when there wasn't TV but come on- go turn on someone else's electronics.

If you feel this uncomfortable then find another hotel. In the future make plans for YOUR family (you,dh, and baby) then tell extended family members what YOUR plans are and that they are welcome to come. I know this is hard when you are first married and come from a close family, I get it, but you will be happy you created this separation.Tara

Ita pollyana. We have had too many of our outings completely taken over by family-- once my family changed the date of the outing (baseball game) and dh couldn't go! It was so stupid. They said " oh I'm so sorry mac can't be there - but we will have fun anyway!". Dh and I just said... Ummm never again. We book first and invite second.Peggy
Aloha from paradise! And the other side of training!

I'm with you - creepy!! The thing with me and ghosts thought is that I'm completely fascinated with them, but when I want to go "hunt for them" or stay in a haunted hotel I just chicken out! haha Drives DH crazy because he isn't a scaredy cat like me lol But I do want to someday stay at a haunted B&B or hotel if I get the courage too! Maybe try to think of it as an experience that once you can survive you can tell your baby about later!?High school sweetheart and wife to an MS4 cutie, and mom to pretty baby J, silly Siamese kitty, crazy Weim, and funny ferret.

I understand your fear, although I don't share it, and I wouldn't stay there if I were you. It will be a long day and you should be staying overnight in a place you feel comfortable in.
And the university comped your parents and brother a room and 3 tickets to the game as part of an "official visit"? Is he an athlete? Otherwise, that is unusual (and I thought that it wasn't allowed for prospective non-student athletes).Event coordinator, wife and therapist to a peds attending
