  • Lasik before or after pregnancy?

My good friend has an appt soon to get lasik but she is also trying to get pregnant. She is nervous about it and recently read that she might have to do it over after having a baby because her vision might change. Does anybody know or have experience with this? She is thinking about canceling...

My vision definitely changed while I was pregnant and went back, mostly, to what it was afterwards.

My vision definitely changed w/pregnancy & remained "off" even post partum; it eventually went back to my normal, but it was several months after the baby was born. For this reason I was advised to just wait/ hold off on seeing an eye doctor.

A friend had to start wearing glasses during her first pg and postpartum, but then her eyes went back to normal after a while. (weird!!) Is your friend planning on having more than one kid? If she is, I would say just go for it right now. What does her surgeon say? He must have some stats about that.

ETA: I hadn't noticed any changes with my 3 pregnancies, but my vision DID get somewhat better according to the optomitrist.(sp)

Thanks ladies. She never asked because she didn't know it changes until she read it somewhere yesterday. She wants 3 kids, but she doesn't want to have lasik multiple times.

She should ask her ophthalmologist. My vision changed with all three pregnancies. And it didn't go back to baseline.

I'm 3 months post-partum and I've been seeing double since the baby was born.

I had Lasik before pregnancy and I couldn't be happier, but my vision was ridiculously bad. Best decision I ever made... should've made it sooner.

Mrs K, is that something that goes away?

Nel, I hope so. I don't know many other moms that are seeing double. My eye doctor thought it could be related to pregnancy, nursing, stress, exhaustion ... Not that I've had any of that the last 2 years. I'm trying to get into a specialist.

I thought you were trying to be funny, meaning that you have two baby K's running around!

Oh my! That gives me a headache just thinking about it! You poor thing!

Wish I was joking. I've been reading this forum with one eye covered. I went to an eye doctor and he confirmed that I'm literally seeing double. The eye doctor said the last time he had someone seeing double, it was a resident's wife who'd had 5 babies and who had been nursing continuously.

Is it all the time, or intermittent? Either way, I'm so sorry MrsK!! I hope you can get into a specialist soon.

That really sucks, what was the outcome with the other patient? Hope it's just temporary

It's intermittant. Worse when I wear glasses than contacts. I notice it most when I watch TV at night or use my blackberry. I didn't think to ask what the other patient's outcome was.
