I'm interested to see. The whole thing is so tangled up in media crap I don't know if I think she did it or not, but it seems like the evidence was pretty slim.

I agree with the victim's family that it seems like she has been forgotten...but they seem to just want somebody to pay regardless of who it is. It's really interesting to follow the story from the British vs. American point of view.

I'm sitting here waiting. The more I read about it, the less it seemed like she did it. ST, is the BBC a decent source for coverage? I'm curious to see what the differences are.

I really think she is innocent, and I usually think everyone is guilty. I do hope she is released and acquitted.

THey didn't overturn the defamation charges, but she is free to go. I wonder what that means for her? That poor kid.

That was the way of "saving face," they will say that her four years served was for that.

Damn I missed watching it live - if anyone has a link of the video, can you post here?

I had prepared myself for a confirmed conviction so I'm glad those two poor kids can go home. I feel horrible for the victim's family for violent loss of their loved one, but imprisoning the innocent is not justice.

But, doesn't the overturned conviction kind of negate the slander charge? She was complaining about the shitty trial, and she was right.

                      Yay!

As far as news sources go, I haven't read the BBC sources. The Telegraph and Daily Mail (basically a tabloid) are interesting, though.

Yes, I would agree with you, it doesn't make sense logically. How can you be guilty of slander if what you said was true?

But then again, perhaps "truth" doesn't have anything to do with the charge of speaking ill of the government in Italy?

The slander charge, and I could be wrong, may have been because she wrongfully pointed the finger at Labumba?

                            I think that was it.

The BBC, The Times and The Guardian are all decent sources. Of those, The Times would lean slightly more towards American views. The Guardian is the one I would tend to follow, they do a lot of live blogs with breaking news like this. The main UK source to avoid is the Daily Mail. Sources such as the DM and The Sun tend to be quite biased and populist.
