  • Back---Fellowship match ahead for us!

I started posting around when DH started his IM residency 2 years ago....hard to believe he is a PGY3 in another month and a half!

We just had twin girls (spontaneous twins, don't run in our family either!) in January so our lives have definitely been topsy turvy especially with his crazy call schedule the last few months!

He is applying to endocrinology fellowships this July and interviews are late summer/fall....followed by the match in early December I believe. It is annoying that they moved match day for IM fellowships by 6 months. If not for that we'd be finding out a whole year in advance!

I am already SO nervous since I'm dying to get back to my home state closer to family and while DH is (so far) planning to rank that program really high, fellowship is so much harder to match in top picks since there are only a few spots. I really really hope to get to go back there so we can consider FINALLY settling down! Plus it would be nice to not half to travel all the time if we want to see family (only would need to travel to see his). If only I knew how all of this was going to play out......SO nervewracking!

To add to the stress of a big move at the end of next June, one of DH's older brothers is getting married the first week of July '13 (obviously not ideal timing for us).....in Spain. I honestly don't know how that is going to happen. And no way am I bringing two 17 month olds to Spain especially on a rushed trip IF we can even go. Plus money will be tight since I have been taking some time off working to take care of our little girls....

Anyways, hello again and hoping I can jump back in to this forum! Definitely could use some support as life has been SO crazy right now with 2 infants and a husband with a crazy schedule. I feel like a lot of my family doesn't get how rough this is for me/us!

Welcome back and if you go to Spain don't take the twins, can you have family help? We are going to Ireland in September and leaving our 2 & 4 year old with the other side of the family. Its not worth spending thousands of dollars on kids that won't remember IMO.

A family member's wedding is different than a normal trip in that everyone will want to see your twins (congrats!), but I hope you can leave them at home!

hello, and welcome back. Good luck with the match!

I agree with the others about leaving the girls in the states with your family if you go to the wedding. Although people would love to see the babies, the wedding with be about the bride and groom anyway and then you would either have to leave early, or find a babysitter in Spain, which I can't imagine doing. (but take my free advice for what its worth. )

Is it a destination wedding or do they live there? If they live there and don't see them that would be one thing but otherwise I still vote for leaving them in the states.

Good luck with the fellowship process.

They do live there.....his brother moved there to work at one of the universities (he is American/US Citizen) but his fiancé is Spanish. But the fact my husband and I have never been there or to Europe or speak Spanish really at all.....I just think it sounds like a very bad idea to bring the girls with us to already a potentially overwhelming (and fast) trip. I shudder to think of 2 jet lagged toddlers, especially since it would be as quick of a trip as we could make it.

We are going to Germany for 6 days this summer for my bil's wedding. My dd is 2.5 It's a 9-hour time difference for us, and an 11-hour flight. I'm as nervous as hell, but we're doing this one time and then never ever again (unless it goes surprisingly well). Jetlag is apparently brutal but if your family is there, then I suggest waking up grandma or uncle and having them deal with jetlagged kiddos. Everyone gets to share the love when it comes to a wedding!

You'll be fine getting around with English.
The only place I had problems was France. But then I would just tell them their only other choice was if I spoke German. And they hate Germans more than Americans, so it all worked out in the end.

Jet lagged kiddos is a nightmare. I traveled with my cousins (2 and 3) to Portugal and it was awful. They didn't get back on track until the 5th day. You could always take the kids for a trip to visit thier uncle in a few years, once they are a little bigger and maybe when they possibly have children. Then you and the hubs can have a little relaxation before fellowship gets underway!

Welcome back (or just welcome since I'm new )
