Powerball got DH through some dark times during residency. Sometimes it's nice to have the dream of an alternate reality, to help underscore that your current reality is actually a choice and isn't foisted on you against your will...

I think he's bought a ticket or two in the past few years as well, when the Powerball jackpot gets high enough. As my daddy always told me, "You can't win if you don't enter!" It's just for fun, and probably a little more sane/fiscally sound than picking stocks, LOL.

No. I'm too lazy to go out of my way to buy a ticket.

I think I bought a total of 5 tickets in my whole life, and most of those were bought when my boss at the time sent me to get tickets for a whole bunch of us and some clients.

Dh buys mega millions regularly. I know we'll never win & I don't bother but Dh has hope & doesn't want to miss out on the opportunity to win & therefore have a forever answer to the need of money.

Rats! For the first time ever DrK and I came up with our "lucky numbers" and bought a ticket. None of our numbers were lucky.

I used to buy them occasionally when my girlfriends and I would go out shopping on Saturdays. We would stop at a gas station to get diet cokes, buy powerball tickets, and then go thrift shopping. Definitely more for fun than for any serious hope of winning.

                Nope. Never even tempted.

But then, I work for the bankruptcy court. I see a lot of that fantastical financial thinking and make bad decisions accordingly.

Really turns me off to the "dream-and-have-fun" side of lotteries.

                I hate Vegas, too.

Nope, I'm too much of a realist (read boring) to buy one. My mom buys several on a regular weekly basis. It makes her happy, so whatever.

I'm never really tempted either. Although I do like to play black jack so it's not an anti gambling stance.

Did you know you actually can't buy lottery tickets in Nevada? They're worried it would be too much competition with the casinos.

I don't think I've ever bought a lottery ticket. It just doesn't occur to me to do so. And I once saw a documentary about lottery winners, and about how many problems winning the lottery brought into their lives... it was interesting. People either blew through it too quickly, lost too much of it to taxes, weren't financially savvy and didn't know what to do, etc. People's relationships suffered because everyone was asking them for money. Then there's the unwanted media attention, risk of being robbed, etc....

We buy a single ticket when the jackpot gets really high. Since we live on the NY/PA border, we can get either the powerball or megamillions. It always leads to interesting conversation, and we end up concluding that it's probably better to NOT win. You can't hide your identity in NY.
