That's so funny - because to me the sound is like fingernails on a chalkboard! I don't know why. But if I'm even channel-surfing and pass a basketball game, I cringe. I do, however, like the sound of a swooshing basketball.

This is my new favorite thread. Just reading it makes me happy! I've always loved summer so much that I wished it could be summer year round, but reading all of your nice things about fall is actually helping me look forward to fall. (Also, being diagnosed with in-situ melanoma last fall did slightly ruin summer for me for good - I'm now more scared of the sunlight than in love with it like I used to be.)

So, here are my favorite simple pleasures about fall:

      - Hot apple cider in the crock pot, with cinnamon and cloves
      - Buying school supplies even though I'm not in school and don't have kids. I'm just a sucker for new notebooks and pens and organizational items.
      - Cool breeze in the honey-colored maple leaves
      - Feeling cozy in my fleece-lined hoodie
      - Season premieres on TV
      - Halloween. It's always my favorite holiday!
      - Hiking up to a nearby lake where there are wild cranberries to pick

        Starbucks holiday and fall drinks

The holiday sections at hobby lobby

Naps with baby, especially when daddy can join us

        Pumpkin patches

Ridiculously hot showers without the baby

        Baby laughs and kisses

Getting my entire family and my Inlaws together in one place for a holiday. We have so much fun.

My foot space heater at work.

Overcast, chilly days. Especially with my "fall music" CD

          - Crisp, cool fall weather. It's always been my favorite!
          - When my little cat squirms around on the floor begging for belly rubs.
          - Drinking lots and lots of black tea in the fall and winter.
          - Red wine.
          - Comfy jeans and sweaters.
          - Popcorn.

I love that too, niener. When I was a kid, my dad was really obsessed with playing tennis... I wasn't into it at all, but I used to ask if I could open his tubes of tennis balls for him, because I loved that smell! (It's probably some horrible chemical, right? Sad!)

That's why preseason always counts in our house. And why the Steelers can always fuck right off.

I ran to the store last night when the SEA @ KC game started and DH was texting me about season ticket prices the whole time I was there. Dude, there's a 2 year wait list. Slow your roll.

Some of mine are duplicates too.

                    Warm summer days.

                    College football.

                    New socks.

                    Freshly washed sheets.

Savasana in my favorite yoga class. The instructor is fantastic, and her voice is so relaxing, I want to stay there forever!

The scent of: men's deodorant (don't ask), new tennis balls (not to mention the pleasure of being the one to open a new can!), and Fleet Farm (a store in this area that has the most distinct smell ever...it's not necessarily a good smell, but it reminds me of my dad).

Dripping sweat after an awesome workout.

The smell of your skin after a day at the beach.

Playing in the pool with family and friends

The sound of small children and babies in church

Grabbing lunch or dinner with a friend

That feeling of accomplishment after a run

Sitting around my mom's kitchen chatting with my sister and/or brother

An ice cold beer on a hot summer day

Going for a walk or hiking in nature with the kids

                            College football games.
                            Good cups of coffee.
                            Impromptu naps (so true, MrsK!).
My son's open-mouthed kisses - with the drool.
                            My husband's hugs.
Crunching through fallen leaves on an autumn walk.
                            Summer thunderstorms!
Ginger ale on airplane rides (not sure why it's so appealing in this particular setting, it just is).
