Yes, yes you do! Is the fence only on one side or does their house now look like a medieval stronghold? Cuz I'm sure that fence is doing wonders for their property value...

Have you ever brought her fresh eggs? I bet she'd stop complaining.

Exactly. I'd buy a house next to someone with chickens, if they'd let me buy some of their eggs!!

Totally irrational, but I'd be afraid the chickens and feed would attract more bugs/ mice. Hey... I said it was irrational!

Don't chickens eat little bugs? Although I have to say that the thought of 13 dressed as Cinderella spreading corn out for her chickens and mice friends is amuzing

A friend of mine who used to live outside of Houston told me that LOTS of peeps in Texas keep chickens purely to help get rid of bugs because they hunt for the larvae.

Did she get a permit for that fence? The legal height limit is 6' here.

So, one of our residents is originally from here. He and his wife met when he was in CA for med school. Upon moving back, he said to his wife (who was about 8 months pregnant with #2), "Honey, I think you need some chickens in the backyard. You know, you could make me fresh eggs every morning". Her response - "I don't know who you think you married, but I'm from Orange County and have no interest or desire to own or care for livestock"

This was a biggie for us. The Mosquitos are equally terrible.

Yeah, I think having chickens in the next yard or not is akin to having the aroma of fresh-baked cookies in the house or not. If you are really really really working hard to sell your house, every little thing counts. But in terms of the actual value of the property? Well, between our two appraisals our neighbor put in a coop and about 20 chickens right in full view of our front yard. The appraised value didn't take this into account at all. (And yum yum neighborly eggs!)

(I do have to say that our MURDERCAT has been bringing home a lot more mice and rats lately and he always seems to be trotting home from that neighbor's yard when he is carrying them...)
