We've always gotten real trees, until last year, when the water reservoir damaged our floors. Dh bought a fake tree. My German husband. Bought a fake tree. I thought hell would freeze over first.

      Christmas tree?

Why do you have what you do?

ETA - added the poll to another thread and moved the responses from the original.

As we are getting ready to celebrate our first Christmas on our own, I am trying to decide which way to go. My family has always gone as a huge group to cut a live tree, but I just don't feel the love for the tradition any more. I don't enjoy tramping through the tree farm trying to find a decent looking tree and I always forget to water the tree creating a fire hazard. Nor is my Kia Rio ideal for transporting the live tree. However, I miss the smell of pine in the house. I sort of feel like I am short-changing the kids by not continuing the tradition.

Crazy amazing Black Friday deal. We love real trees, but while we have a curious toddler and a cat who gets sick from eating the needles, fake it is.

I feel like I would be cheating on Christmas to get a fake tree. Love everything about real trees...smell, look, pine needles all over the house (kidding!). Plus I use the clippings to decorate the house.

Got our tree this morning and I already made a wreath for the door. .

We have always done fake but I want to start doing a real tree. I have a few questions about it.,,
1- how much are real trees 7ft-8ft
2- we have real wood floors, does that matter
3- how much are tree stand and are there some better than others.

We've always had a fake tree, and we will this year too, but DH wants a real one so much. I don't. I will be the one watering it, cleaning up the needles, and all the other hassle that goes with it. And a couple years ago, a friend's tree had a spider's nest that hatched a couple days later, filling their living room with baby spiders. Ick! So now I'm terrified that will happen when he's on call and I'll have to deal with hundreds of spiders.

You'd think I'd go real, but fake all the way. I'm allergic to the scratches from needles and I don't want to clean up after it or have the baby scratched up. Plus it is a completely solo deal here, and if DH isn't going to help, I'm not wrangling a real one.

If you want it to smell real, they make these ornaments that blend in with the tree to give off a smell. Target has them.

I might go for a real pine wreath. I do like the smell.

Our 3 ft topiary from 2009, and a 7ft one, inherited from my grandparents. Both fake.
                  DH is super allergic...

B, the ones at the tree lot run $40-60 I think. We have hardwood and we just put a sheet between the stand and floor. We got the stand free at the dump.

We got our tree from a lot in 2009 and 2010, then got our own (quasi-legal) ditch tree last year. I think DH is leaning toward doing another ditch tree this year.

1.) Depends on tree species, whether it's a lot or a U-cut place, and geographic location. We've paid everywhere from $5/ft up to $8/ft.

2.) Nope, not at all. We had hardwoods in our last house and they were never damaged by the tree. Just make sure not to let water spills sit for long.

3.) Stands vary in both quality and price. We like the larger heavy plastic one that has a large water reservoir and a foot pedal you use to lock the tree into place when it's level. That foot pedal alone is worth the extra cost because it is sooooo much easier to use than the stupid little screws to adjust for level.

We do real but I also bought a fake yesterday to go out in our deck. We've always cut our own but I'm told we won't be able to do thy with a Fraser Fir so we may have to get a pre-cut.

We got a nice artificial pre-lit tree at Costco last year when we stayed home for Christmas for the first time. My family's had fake for a while because my mom got allergic to the real ones. When we did get real ones, when I was a kid, we would drive up into the forest in the Cascades with a cheap permit and track down a completely wild tree and cut it down. That was nice, but I kinda like knowing I'm not killing a tree every year.
I love our fake tree, and I have a nice pine candle I use for the scent.
