The link SuzySunshine posted said MDs will be able to apply for DO residencies. Won't matter for us, but I know there is a DO Rads residency in Ft Worth.

The biggest question is whether or not some DO programs will have to close (allopathic residencies require a core of other programs in order to add a program). Where DH practiced in IL, there was a DO neurosurgery program and an approval for DO EM program, but it wouldn't have had the other needed programs for an allopathic residency. If the core programs are required for MD and DO programs, and any current DO programs were to close, it would be very problematic because, as it sits now, beginning in 2015, there will be more US medical school graduates than residency slots. Rig now, it seems Washington has no intention of increasing GME funding (it would look like an increase in Medicare spending which is simply not in the budget). Again, this would have a huge impact on IMGs as well as anyone at the bottom of his/her class.-Deb
