My mom got me (and the kids) some candy and bubbles. And she and the kids baked cupcakes. My dad was out of town. I texted him to remind him to bring something home. My mom is huge on remembering special days. Dad regularly forgets and it's a common spat. My sister and I take turns trying to remind him.

So wait, children get "gifts" for Valentine's Day now? Is this a new thing? I don't remember that happening when I was a kid!

Gave the kids cards in the morning.

Otherwise, nothing. DH got home late, was on-call, had a cold, and was in a terrible mood.

Brought my son home and DH gave me some red velvet cupcakes. Then, DH did the whole newborn-night shift (minus feeding shifts) and let me sleep even though he had to go in early this morning. I may have mumbled something like: "I have never seen anything more attractive than an exhausted man comforting his newborn baby."

My husband has today off, so I think we're doing dinner tonight - either he's cooking, or we're going out. He got up and made coffee and pancakes this morning, and I may have given him a little treat last night in exchange for a foot massage .

DH and I exchanged cards, plus he gave me a nice bottle of wine and a salted toffee chocolate bar. Nom. He made pepper steak with T-bones from our local grass-fed beef place, then we watched Skyfall on Blu-ray. It was a really nice evening. (Kids got nothin', I always got a stuffed animal or something when I was growing up but I am much stingier than my mom. )

Brandi, it was after an experience like that that DH and I decided to never go out on Valentine's Day again!

I woke up to Godiva sitting on the kitchen counter. Yum! The kids and I made cupcakes for DH, and our church had a parents' night out, so we dropped off the kids and got take-out Olive Garden. (Pickings are slim around here for restaurants...) We ate outside on the back porch, and DH got me some beautiful white gold hoop earrings. Totally not fair, since at most we usually give each other sweets or flowers as gifts, but I love them!

Mainly I played chauffeur while he stayed with the other kids. He fell asleep in my kid's bedroom and I got caught up on Downton Abbey.

We do small gifts for the kids but something they want/need. A got an outfit with a matching one for her doll and R got Hungry Hippo which they played all! day! DH and I decided we weren't doing gifts but I hid cards for several days and I got him a $5 coffee mug from his favorite Portland brewery. We are going out tonight to a French restaurant which we've had a gift card to for almost a year!

I made flower arrangements of hydrangeas and red roses, lit heart tea lights and baked cheesecakes. We had a quiet dinner at home and some wine.
