  • What do you collect?

I thought this would be fun!

I actually collect old gameboy color games and devices. Seriously. LOL. I got into this when my kids played them years ago and now I regularly search the amazon marketplace for them. I get a thrill out of finding games in original boxes for good prices. I own Minish Cap, Four Swords, Oracle of Ages and Mario Kart Super circuit in the original boxes ... and I got each of them for ~$20. My boys are so jealous!

I have never actually played the games .... LOL ... It's just fun to collect!

Having no room I don't collect anything anymore, but as a child I collected seals and sea lions (figurines, stuffed animals...) and music boxes/players (especially the electronic ones). All my stuff is still at my parents until I have a place of my own.

When I worked, I collected glass paperweights. Some cost hundreds of dollars and I used them every day. I kept about a dozen or so in my office. I had a huge desk that surrounded me on three sides and kept stacks of papers and files for each transaction on which I was working. Each stack had a paperweight on it.

Now, it seems that I'm collecting Little People toys. I let my kids play with them. But I love it when I find a set that has been discontinued for a bargain.

My mother has an insane amount of collections:

            head vases
            cut crystal
            perfume bottles
            Purvis Young paintings/drawings
            modern art
            demitasse cups
            antique jewelry
            bird figurines
            jewelry boxes
            ceramic dog statues

She has multiple curio cabinets, her walls are covered in paintings from floor to ceiling, and every horizontal surface displays a collection. Yes, you can have too much of a good thing.

Pictures. Digital; I am getting to the point where I don't like a lot of "stuff". My house could really use some more stuff, though. It really looks bare.

Growing up, I collected Breyer horses, stamps, coins, and books. (Do books count? Now I keep them on my Kindle. Yay for not taking up space!)

You mean besides dust and dog hair? Cookbooks and antique books. And I've read every single one.

The idea of collecting items like knick knacks gives me hives. But I suppose you could say I collect books, since I don't do digital readers and I tend not to get rid of them when I'm done unless I hated them. I guess I also have a small but growing grouping of jade plants in my office.

Does anyone find that they don't mean to collect items but somehow you have one or two of something and all of a sudden people just start giving you more? That's how my mom's salt and pepper shaker collection happened She bought a couple cute ones and people thought she like that so now she has a whole collection because everyone kept giving them to her. I admit I was guilty of this, until in a conversation she happened to tell me she hadn't meant to collect them and really was apathetic to the collection.

Living in apts most of my life and moving every few years wasn't very conducive for collecting.

At one point I started a shoe collection but our house has very little closet/storage space, so I didn't get far.

L.Jane, that happens to me! When we got our first cat, all of a sudden, we got throw pillows, hand towels, a serving platter, and figurines of cats as gifts.

The recycling, I recycle everything haha I know doesn't count but my collection gets pretty big. I do have a hard time getting rid of old school stuff like handouts, readings, books and assignments. Same with boxes stuff comes in. You never know when you will need a box.
