February 13, 1993. Conan's Pizza in Austin, Texas.

Weirdly, we didn't realize it was our first date until much later.

To this day, we don't really celebrate St. Valentine's Day. Every year (that we're in the same city/country!), we go out for ham & pineapple pizza, which is what we had the night of our first date.

Glad I'm not the only one!

DH came to my apartment after working one night to have drinks with work friends and watch Grey's Anatomy... Three bottles of wine later and he did the walk of shame 36 hours later. We decided after that we were just going to be friends and have the occasional casual outing... That really worked out.

Dinner at Frontera Grill then we saw The Incredibles

She had another commitment in the afternoon and didn't know when she would be done, so we had to put our name down at FG and then wander around River North/Michigan Ave. It was fun, but by the time we got to sit down I was so hungry. To this day she talks about how I was staring at the buzzer as if to will it to buzz. Then I brought a copy of the paper to figure out if we could go see a movie afterward. That's also a running gag now (given the obsolescence of showtime listings in news papers.)

              Well DH and I were
"Friend with benefits" for some time before we started actually dating. First official date. Hiking then went out to eat at some steakhouse. Ran into my family, so the secret was out. (Up until that point he as just my math tutor as far as anyone in my family was concerned)

My grandfather soon stopped paying for my math lessons. Woops

I was over 2 hours late (thank you, USC v. UCLA game day traffic!!), and he took me out anyway. We were supposed to hike near the friendship bell in San Pedro, but it was cold & windy as hell and I promptly turned purple. This was before DH "dx me" with hypothyroidism and suggested I go to an endo.
We drove back from San Pedro into South Pas, but due to traffic, our evening venue (a wine and cheese tasting) had already happened. They were cleaning up when we arrived, but DH managed to score 2 glasses of red and we sat on the patio, chatting for a bit.
Famished, he asked if I'd like to go eat -- we hit up an amazing KBBQ place in LA and he cooked our meal at the table, while engaging me in conversation.
Any man that can cook, talk, and smile at the same time is definitely charming.
I thanked him, and I called it a night - we went out again the next week, which led to more dates, and here we are.

Junior prom (his), 2000. We were coming back from the state debate tournament, an hour's drive out of town. (I requested a point of personal privilege from a session of student congress to leave early once he was eliminated in the debate semifinals.) No time for restaurant reservations. Quickly changed into our prom attire at my parents' house and took pictures, then drove to his parents' house for dinner. They put on a big show of it, cooking for us and dressing as wait staff to serve us in the formal dining room. He had to sweet-talk his way into the prom because we were so late. (Easy for a teacher's pet like him.) I broke the strap on my dress giving him a hug at the end of the night.

I asked him to dance at a dance in college (1997) that ended up turning into our first date. We got to talking and the movie snob in him was appalled that I had never seen Pulp Fiction so we went back to his room and watched it. The next morning the executive committee we were on had a retreat at a ropes course, we spent the hole time together and that afternoon he went out to lunch with me, my sister and her friend who were visiting our campus. Pretty much been inseparable ever since but I couldn't really tell you what our first date, just the two of us was, after that. I'll have to ask him, he always remembers these little details.

Well, it depends on the definition of first date. The first time we hung out together we went to see an improve comedy sports thing and he paid, but the first "official" date where we had discussed that is was in fact a date, was few weeks later in Oct 2007. He showed up at my door with Twizzlers and a puzzle. We went to dinner and then had time between dinner and the movie, so we went back to my place and started the puzzle. Then we went and saw Transformers at the IMAX.

We went to Blue Man Group in Chicago. It was awesome, neither of us had either been. All of my friends and family complimented him on his creativity and originality for months. I later found out it was the exact first date his twin brother had taken his girl friend on the year before. I also could have known what my first Christmas present would be if I had asked his brother's gf what she got the year before haha. I thought the whole thing was funny. His excuse was why change up something that seemed to work. He still gets made fun of about it by his family.

I have been thinking about this and I honestly don't know. We met when I was 12 and he was 10 because our mothers had become friends....in 1981 (that doesn't make me feel old at all)! I know it sounds corny, but we both remember that day and the time we spent together very distinctly. We bonded pretty quickly and he has been part of my life ever since. Neither of us remember any "memorable" dates before we got married (in 1990). Sometimes this bothers me, but most of the time I just feel lucky that I found him when I did and that we share so many memories.

Thank you for these. I love them! Mommax, yours is always one of my favorites!!

I met DH through match.com. We emailed and talked on the phone for over a month before finally meeting (June 2001) as we lived a 6 hour drive apart. I was so nervous I was drinking some sort of booze out of a coffee mug when he arrived (several refills). We went for a walk, and sat on the deck and chatted for hours, with me excusing myself periodically to vomit . He ended up staying until the next afternoon *cough*, and even then I had to kick him out. (I needed space!) I think our first real date was a few days later, when he took me to see Shrek.

                                Pontiac Cafe in Chicago.
An outdoor dining area. She was the prettiest girl there.
Unfortunatly she was doing a crossword puzzle and it took forever for me to get her attention.

But that wasnt the first date.

First date was meeting at a Jazz club.
It was pooring down rain and she got soaked on the way over. She was holding the voltive in the middle of the table for luck.
Half way through she told me she wanted to get home into a hot bath
(for a couple of minutes there I thought I was going to get lucky : )
