That's why I'm confused and want to make sure what is the first date to be ready because it used to be September 1st.
Ah, that would explain it. Yes, my 9/1 date is from applying for match 2012; it may well have changed. Definitely have all the info in ahead of the date, though, so you can just hit "send" when it opens up!

Thanks! I started getting more nervous there. I just googled when is the first day to apply for the 2014 match and found the NRMP website has updated finally and it says September 15th too. Whew! LINK

I think we're going to be ok for applications. He already has Step 1, Step 2 CS, and is taking Step 2 CK in time, and then Step 3 before the end of this year.

The last time I looked for the 2014 Match dates was right during this years match and shortly after and they weren't updated yet.

*slinking away in shame* Duh. DUH. I don't know why I posted that--I think I was thinking that within iMSN if you commented in/bookmarked threads they would stay saved in your profile area...I don't know. I'm so lame!

Aww, It's alright. I knew what you meant. Plus I could tell you were experiencing the same panic I was feeling.

It means (at least this year) that you could not physically submit it for programs to download until 9/15. That is the first day you can submit, you can submit after that though. Does that help?

I know we are in for a crazy ride, but hopefully will be worth it in the end. I've already got our spreadsheets made - that took forever, but glad I got it out of the way early. From what I've read, the submission date for ERAS is Sept. 15., but I'm sure that will be confirmed once it becomes available to start entering info.
MrsPotts I'm impressed you're already done with the Spread Sheet from Hell. Ugh I've been dinking around FRIEDA procrastinating building the beast. I guess I should get to it. I'm looking at general surgery, internal medicine and family medicine.

There *is* a "subscribe to thread" option in "thread tools" near the top of the page. That will save in a list I think you can get to from your profile, and I think you can say whether you want updates to subscribed threads emailed to you as well...

Yes - it was awful! I would certainly get started on it now so you can concentrate on starting to get info into the ERAS come June (I think that is when it opens) and not worry about the spreadsheet. I'm not sure if your hubby is doing any aways, but the sheet came in handy when picking aways for us.

Is aways something that happens in residency?

You guys are way further along than we are. We're looking at Neuro (I'll call it 90%) and she's talked to the former chair of neurology (who she worked with during her phd) and the head of the residency program at her school, but that's about it.

I guess it is time to start digging into a spreadsheet for reals....

Okay, I know we're only approaching end of MS1, but what is the "spreadsheet" you speak of? How far in advance can I prepare for this? I am so glad I've got that Xanax rx because this sounds like something I could easily worry about for the next 2.5 years...

the way we plan to implement it is just a listing of programs with columns for various factors, and for tracking progress or notifications. An easy place to store all the relevant information on programs you're interested in.

                              Yep that ^

But remember, you can only download 100 programs from FREIDA a year. For what stupid reason I don't know. So we eliminated before downloading.

Honestly, we are both just ready to dive into the mess. I want to know where I'm going to be living. DH is done with most of the major rotations and is kind of just "done" with med school at this point.

This! We applied I think 5-7 days after the application opened up. Don't worry about step 2 if there isn't anything he can do to change the test date. It would be best if he had all 4 step tests done by sept 15th, but just work with what you've got. For goodness sakes don't put it off another year because of it.
Do you have your list of programs?
