We just had a sofa delivered from west elm this past Saturday!! We love it. We couldn't exactly splurge on a PB couch (we covet the ones my parents have in the sunroom at their house) because it is the most comfortable, best looking couch and exactly what we wanted. Turns out we found something nearly identical at west elm and took advantage of a 15% off upholstery sale they had in march. I would highly recommend their furniture, though this is the only piece we have. Very comfy and soft and we paid what we felt was a reasonable price.

Do you think the chesterfield would need the chesterfield chair to match? Or that it could go with a different type of chair?

Honestly, if you love the Chesterfield that much I think you should go for it. I don't think you need to be matchy unless you want to. I prefer when furniture "goes" but doesn't match exactly. I love my couch and chair that don't match but they're colors that sort of coordinate, similar fabrics, and both tight-backed. Just different arm styles. When you buy things that you love that feel like your style, they tend to go well together anyway, right?

We are going to head to the PB outlet tomorrow. Maybe we'll get lucky and see something that we like. I do really love the Chesterfield, but I have no decorating talents...What I really want is for someone to buy everything and decorate the entire house for me.

If nothing jumps out at you at the outlet, don't settle. Did you know that PB offers free decorating consults? They'll come to your house with swatches and books. I think you should get the chesterfield.

That's what I need... I have no design talent at all! But then I'm sure I'd fight with them:
Decorator: "Let's put some flowers here."
Me: "But then I'd have to dust them..."
Decorator: "So you want to just have an empty shelf?"
                Me: "Is that bad?"
                Decorator: "..."

We actually met with one of the design people! And we have one coming to our new house also before we move after we close. Sadly, she wasn't THAT much of a help. She was like..oh you like the Chesterfield? Yes! It's great! what do you like? oh yeah that is great! I couldn't pry any actual advice out of her except what materials were good for kids. Hopefully the one who comes to our house can be a little more helpful with colors etc...

I always think it would be a great idea to go on a house design TV show! But those houses are never very livable. Like they all want you to put all of your furniture in the middle of the room, but I really like there to be open space for the kids to run around in.

Bassett makes pretty nice - well priced- couches too.

Well that sucks. Hopefully the next one is better. I try to somewhat copy rooms that I like in catalogs. Like the PB kids catalog gives me tons of ideas for wall decor that I make myself. Buying furniture always scares me a bit though because OMGwhatifitsthewrongthing...

I love Room and Board too. They often have discontinued colors/fabrics on clearance. Although after 4 yrs and numerous spills and pukes, their couch isn't looking all that hot.

For the record fresh flowers don't need to be dusted and many vases are dishwasher safe. I hate dusting too and hate knick-knacks. There are plenty of ways to decorate without piling random stuff on a shelf.
