We have office hours one Saturday a month and it is just DH and myself. We were almost done for the day and I got a phone call from a woman who wanted to leave a message for us to call her back on Monday! She had no idea we were in the office. She said her husband was dizzy and his gait was off and he had vomited. I thought ok, maybe vertigo and told her to bring him right in. Thirty minutes later they come in, he was stumbling and almost incoherent, and really looked like he was about to code. I called for DH, apologized to the patient in the exam room as I kicked her out and sent her back to the waiting room. He is a BIG 60 year old guy, 6ft /250 lbs, and Holy shit, his BP was 70/?? and respiratory rate 45. It felt like an hour but within five minutes I started two IVs, oxygen, and called 911. Our office is next door to the Rescue Squad and I was never so happy to see them walk in the door. DH was the Intensivist on for ICU on Saturday night so at least his first admission was his own patient. The patient's Bicarb was 4 when he got to the ER, yes FOUR. I told DH this is why I left the hospital, I don't want that drama anymore. I want healthy patients for annual physicals!!

Holy cow! It's amazing to me who will go to the ER for the slightest pain, vs. the person who calls to make an appointment MONDAY, but is literally dying. It's so fortunate you were in the office.-Deb

DH was off this weekend, so we went out for dinner and a movie (This Is the End) Friday night.
Saturday morning, we took the kids to see Monsters University. DS did well, but DD only lasted 45 minutes, and DH took her to the store and let me stay with DS. We made egg rolls for supper, and the kids "helped" roll them.
Yesterday, we went to a membership class after our church service. We got the kids down for naps, and I went shopping. Crazy! It was pretty fun, though. I found some summer tops and new workout clothes. My blood donor shirts from college are getting pretty worn out and hole-y.We had BLTs for supper using tomatoes from DS's tomato plants - mmmm!

Grilled and chilled on Friday, hiked on Saturday then went out for burgers and cocktails. Laid around being lazy all day yesterday (well, DH was studying...) since we both have colds that DH brought home from work. DH insisted on putting in the window AC last night, and guess what, blowing stale cold air at me all night is not the way for me to get over a cold! Yuck.Wife of PGY-4 (of 6), cat herder, and mom to a sassy-pants four-nager.

We went to a grad party for one of the graduating fellows in our department on Friday night. It was a blast, so my appointment to get new tires at the ass crack of dawn on Saturday was pretty painful. After that, I drove up to my hometown. The BF was home doing research, but on call Saturday/Sunday so I ditched him for the rest of the weekend. My BFF's husband's company prints track signs for most of the racetracks in the area. A NASCAR series was at the local track, so she and I went for the people-watching. Sadly, the people watching wasn't as amazing as we expected, but we still had a blast (and we care 0% about auto racing). We went out to dinner with her parents that night (they are like my second family). Today, I just hung out with her and her adorable kids for most of the morning. When I got back home, I spent most of the afternoon outside reading and took a walk in my favorite park. The BF came up for air long enough to get Thai takeout (yum), then went back to work after dinner while I watched the season finale of Mad Men.I'm just trying to make it out alive!

Well, all in all it wasn't a bad weekend. I built up the IL dinner in my head and, guess what, it wasn't that bad. Maybe it was the three glasses of wine and one margarita, but still. Friday night DH and I relaxed after a hellacious week. We cooked dinner together, sat out back on our patio and enjoyed the evening, played gin, and laughed a ton. Saturday morning we woke up, DH was super sweet and made me nutella toast and coffee and brought it to me in bed (he does this partially out of the kindness of his heart, partially because we HAVE to get up and he hopes that coffee and food will make me less of a heinous evil morning bitch and he gets scared). We lounged for a bit then headed out to the pool. We soaked up the sun and swam around for a couple of hours then we showered, packed up, and headed to NC. We had a fun drive down, messing around with each other and having ridiculous "what if" conversations. Got to my parents house, had a few minutes to enjoy the new backyard - they've recently totally re done the landscaping and patio in the backyard and it's GORGEOUS - before getting ready and heading to the ILs
Dinner with the ILs wasn't a terrible experience. Most of all, DH was happy. And that made me happy. Also, wine. Sunday I went to visit my grandmother and DH went to visit his grandfather, then we reconvened to head back to VA. On the way to VA we stopped off at our friend's house to visit for a few minutes and see their son. HE IS PRECIOUS OH MY GOD. I sooo badly want to post a picture but I feel badly since it's not my kid. I'll have to just keep them on Instagram and Facebook! He is a smiling, bashful, fast moving bunch of sweetness. We got back to VA, went for a night swim, and then started watching Mad Men. I love it...I feel an obsession coming on!Wife, support system, and partner-in-crime to PGY-3 (IM) and spoiler of our 11 y/o yellow lab

Friday night we attended dhs department residency graduation dinner. The department is so kind. They served dh and I vegetarian dinners while every single other person there ate steak. It was interesting to see another programs graduation. It was so different from dhs. So much more supportive, kind and friendly. It just clarifies how toxic dhs program was.
Saturday there was a pool party at one of the other attending house. We went, O played in the pool the whole time. Afterwards we picked up a larger crate for the dog.
Sunday we did the usual grocery shopping and yard work. It was a good weekend overall.Wife to Hand Surgeon just out of training, mom to two lovely kittys and little boy, O, born in Sept 08.

Tried to enjoy our second to last weekend off, but we had so much stuff to do we weren't super successful. Spent most of Saturday unsuccessfully furniture shopping. I did order the dining room table today, at least, and we picked out a sofa and recliners, just need to decide on fabrics. Sunday we tried out a new church, then went over to my parents' house, where my husband and dad worked on a component console for our living room, and my mom and I ran some errands and relaxed.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer
