I've spent New Year's so many different places over the last several years that I haven't had time for any traditions to develop yet.

We got married right before New Year's (anniversary #2 is Monday!) and the only year I didn't make it to midnight was the day after our wedding. We tried, but were so exhausted we both fell asleep around 11.

I don't regularly make resolutions, but last New Year's I made it my goal for the year to buy only ethically sourced coffee and chocolate. I've done pretty well, and it's indirectly helped me cut back on a lot of unnecessary chocolate eating.

The past several years we've celebrated New Years with our best friends, a (non-medical) couple we met in medical school. I love it. We keep it low-key, and it's kind of a reward for making it through the holidays.

I vaguely resolve to be healthier every year, but that doesn't usually work any better than specific resolutions. By the end of December, I'm so exhausted that big changes seem impossible. I should make Easter resolutions instead...

We do nothing for NYE. We don't stay up until midnight local time, we don't eat anything special, we don't even really recap the year. It's just the night before a random day that DH gets off.

As far as resolutions, I never really seriously have made any. I've had answers for when people ask, but they're always super vague/non-memorable, so no one has ever asked me. I think my only goal last year was to have a healthy baby, but that's cheating as far as a resolution goes (since I really could do little to insure that).

This year, I did buy a "Question a Day" book that spans 5 years. It will be great to see how my answers change as we finish residency, do a fellowship, and start our job!

We always stay up until midnight but don't have any specific traditions, it just depends on where we are at the time. DH almost always has a few days off around New Years because he never takes Christmas off since we don't really celebrate Christmas. We went to Vegas one year with a couple of friends, that was the best one so far. This year we'll just be going over to a co-resident's house party. We don't make any resolutions -- I'm under no illusions that I'd actually keep one.

We don't usually stay up, but the neighbors love fireworks and usually do a big midnight display so we wake up and go, "Ungh. Happy New Year," and roll over and go back to sleep. This year DH is working so I'll be staying up as usual, he may not even be home by midnight.

I try to remember to make blackeyed peas on New Year's Day. I also like writing a little journal entry to visualize my year ahead.

Do you have any New Year's traditions?
Sometimes we do Sauerkraut and port on New Years Day.

Do you always make it til midnight to ring it in?
              Hell no.
Do you make resolutions? If so, have you ever made one you've kept?
Big on resolutions. In fact, I was going to start a thread about it. I typically make small, easily achieved goals and work towards them. My last one was to meditate/pray two minutes a day. Seriously, there is NO reason to not be able to accomplish this. I usually accomplish about 2/3 of them, especially since I started to make them smaller, achievable "micro" goals. I'll start this thread elsewhere.

Do you have any New Year's traditions? Hmmmm. Good question. I don't think we do. Now I want to hear what everyone's traditions are so that we can add some!

Do you always make it til midnight to ring it in?
Yes. We usually just stay up and then wish each other a Happy New Year. We don't even watch the ball drop though. We're boring.

Do you make resolutions? If so, have you ever made one you've kept? I usually make resolutions (though some years, I have rebelled). I'm funny. If I don't make my resolutions before midnight, they don't count in my mind and therefor are unattainable. LOL. I have done a good job of keeping them some years. One year, I lost 70 pounds. I'm banking on sticking with them again this year. I hope I do.

That's an awesome tradtion! I've never actually made it, but I love eating it. Especially the okra. It reminds me of my southern roots.

I love resolutions: the trick (for me) is to keep them simple, and realistic.
The only one I didn't get accomplished this year was my first book - I just ran out of time. In 2014, I'm looking forward to purchasing a new computer, and have picked my subject matter.

So, 2014 - first book, Baby #2, a 10k or half marathon, learning how to play chess, placing membership at either a yoga studio or crossfit gym (my local workout plan doesn't exist in our relocation local), and planting a new herb garden at the new place.

Traditions: we eat noodles and/or a seaweed soup dish (long life, and prosperity) in our house. Growing up, my mom made black-eyed peas (I think she called it Hoppin' Johnny??) and ham, with some sort of stewed greens. As kids, we had sparkling juice and got to stay up late. Dad would purchase sparklers and we would light them in the yard.
My parents have had some great parties with food, games, and such.

Now, we do "Irish" new year with a few other families - we celebrate new Year early (midnight in Ireland), and call it a night. It's a family thing with games, balloons and noisemakers - there's champagne and kissing for the adults, but no one needs a sitter, and we all go home at decent hour.

We're moving to FL, but haven't publicly announced on Facebook or anything.

(DH's allergies warrant either long term oral steroid use [no way], relocation to the ocean, or invasive sinus surgery [not really what he wants, either]).

Florida sounds much better than surgery or steroids! I knew you were looking but didn't know any more than that.

Do you have any New Year's traditions?
Yes. The entertainment typically involves fireworks, a ball drop and a NYE kiss. Be that at home watching the fireworks on TV going off around the world every hour, going somewhere local to watch the NYE fireworks and ball drop, or lighting them myself outside with the neighbors. I also make black eyed peas for good luck and dh likes this tradition best.

Do you always make it til midnight to ring it in?
Most of the the time yes. I want that kiss at midnight and to wish my sweetie a happy new year!

Do you make resolutions? If so, have you ever made one you've kept?
Yes. It depends on the resolution. I used to make unrealistic ones and then I adjusted to making ones I could achieve. This past year I resolved to work on forgiveness. I gave a lot of forgiveness to people that needed to be forgiven. Forgiveness that I'd been meaning to give for a long time but put off. It turns out that by forgiving others I opened myself to loving others more. In turn by letting go I was also able to forgive myself, and truly love myself more, and give myself what I needed to be happy. I had an epiphany just recently at the end of this year that I had ultimately given myself the greatest gift unknowingly by resolving to forgive others when I'd set my prior NYE resolution.

There is nothing in particular that I do every year. I usually stay up, but maybe this year will just head to bed ... we'll see!

Do you have any New Year's traditions?
We typically play games. Kiss at midnight if I make it.

Do you always make it til midnight to ring it in?
Nope. My son hardly ever does. I'm 50-50. Chad and Lexi usually make it.

Do you make resolutions? If so, have you ever made one you've kept?
Never really made any with the real intention of keeping them. I like the idea of small obtainable goals, but this year? I'm kind of like, fuck it. I don't want to be better. I'm going to stay fat and in debt.
