    1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?
Not even sure...10+. But twice for medicine.

    2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?
Realistic dream (is that a thing?) is where we live now. Dream-dream would be Sydney, AUS

    3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?
Definitely. The selfish part of me wants it to be Australia or NZ. The selfless part of me knows/wants it to be in the developing world - looking like Kenya or TZ right now.

    4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?
    Top:
    Raleigh
    Charleston
Annapolis --where I mostly grew up, downside is that my crazy family still lives there

    Bottom:
Cleveland/anywhere in Ohio - too close to inlaws and too cold
Buffalo - way, way too much snow
Boston/NYC - too cold, physically and interpersonally. Also, too Democratic.
I'm sure the opposite is why some don't want to live in the South. I love to visit these cities but they're not for me now that we have kids

Married to a Urology Attending! (that is an understated exclamation point)
Mama to C (Jan 2012), D (Nov 2013), and R (April 2016). Consulting and homeschooling are my day jobs.

      1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?
6 moves, 5 due to medicine (3 in the past six years). Hoping for one more.

      2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?
My realistic dream locations - Raleigh/Durham, Nashville, Austin

      3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?
I think we'd consider New Zealand or UK for a year or two, but I love that my kids see their cousins every couple months and we'd lose that for the timeframe.

      4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?[/QUOTE]

      I guess I answered 1/2 in #2 - NC Triangle, Nashville, Austin
Bottom - general areas - anywhere in Louisianna, Mississippi, or the Dakotas.

        1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?
I've moved at least 13 times, but I'm probably missing a couple. Just 1 was for medicine.

        2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?
It's not really my "dream" location, but we will probably end up living in this area permanently. I guess it's more of a "realistic dream", like T&S.

        3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?
Absolutely...I would live anywhere! I almost moved to Tel Aviv before meeting the dude. I'd love to get the chance to live internationally some day, but I'm not sure it will happen.

        4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?
Right now, I'm digging Boston, NYC, or San Francisco.
Bottom three: Dallas, anywhere in Oklahoma, or the deep South.

I'm just trying to make it out alive!

          1. Five different regions that are at least 50 miles apart, probably about twelve unique addresses. Two moves were for medicine.

          2. Portland, Maine. The winter sucks but I like nearly every other aspect of it, including being relatively close to family. We could retire there, but since DW will be going into academic medicine, the odds are slim that it would happen sooner.

          3. Not really. Maybe an English speaking country for a short time. However, I'm at a stage in my life where it would be too stressful to become fluent in another language and adapt to a different culture. I would consider Quebec though. Even though it's French speaking, the culture isn't drastically different from the US and we could still drive to visit family.

          4. Top 3 - Portland (Maine), Boston, Pennsylvania (either Philly or Pittsburgh)
Bottom 3 - Houston, Atlanta, Florida (except maybe Miami or St. Pete)

The bottom line is that I prefer urban, walk-able areas with mostly pre-1950s housing stock, both for aesthetic reasons and to reduce car dependency.

            1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?
9 times, if I count dorm moves as one. 3 times for medicine.

            2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?
I'd love to live back in Edmond, OK, or a Dallas suburb, but this is probably the best place for us right now since we're closer to our parents.

            3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?
No. I want to be close to family.

            4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?
            Top 3:
            - Edmond, OK (Friends)
            - Dallas, TX (About the biggest city if want to live in)
            - Here, a bigger small town in north Texas (Close to family)
            Bottom 3:
            - NYC (Love to visit, but it's too big and crowded for me)
            - Chicago (Drove there once, never again)
            - My hometown (Too small)
            Laurie

              1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?

As a kid - San Antonio, Florida, Cleveland, San Antonio, and New Orleans (two moves here if you count the short term rental while the house was built). All of these were due to medicine, except Florida, which was more due to the Air Force, though medicine was involved. Since then, Waco (lived in 3 different places here), Nashville, Houston, and New Orleans - Waco and Nashville were for my school, Houston and New Orleans were for medicine. So, 8 moves, most for medicine.

              2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?

I don't know for sure, but we LOVED Nashville. We'd like to end up in that part of the country (AL, TN, KY, NC, etc.) some day, I think, after training.

              3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?

Probably not. I hate international travel, and although we've spent a lot of time living away from family, we still saw them several times a year and would miss that otherwise - especially now that we have a kid.

              4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?

Nashville, Birmingham... I don't know about the 3rd. Bottom 3 might be Los Angeles, Boston, and New York - although I'm sure I can come up with worse ones, like Brownsville or El Paso? We're southerners for sure, and we like cities that are big enough to have a lot to offer without being overwhelming. Although Houston wasn't so bad, but it was more spread out I guess. I'd freeze to death if we went too far north, and I think we're too conservative for California and some other parts of the country.

                1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?

7 times. Dh matched in the city I was living in, and we moved to CA for his fellowship. We moved to the PNW where my family is, so I'd say that wasn't really for medicine.

                2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?

We live in our dream location. Beautiful (I mean, like a painting spectacular!) scenery, great food, tons to do! The downside is the traffic, for sure... It's gotten so bad here.

                3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?

Yes. I speak German, and enough Japanese to get by. I'd love to improve my French. I'm totally up for it, and think it would be great to be able to live somewhere for a few years with my kids!

                4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?

Top 3: Other than where we currently live, SF, NYC. I like walkable, huge cities. Bottom 3: Anywhere where it gets really hot. Chicago is about as much heat and humidity as I can take!

                  1. 16. About to be 17 times. 4 are for medicine.
                  2. Charleston, SC or Grand Rapids, MI or Colorado. We're no where near these locations
                  3. IDK if I would live in a foreign country. I would like to visit many countries.
                  4. Michigan is my top place, the least would be the Deep South. Too humid

                    1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?

9 (not counting within town/city moves). 4 of those were for medicine.

                    2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?

Not sure where my dream location would be. Definitely not in it now though there are several financial perks to our current location. We will most likely stay here a while. The job, money and cost of schools/living etc is low and there are lots of welcoming folks.

                    3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?

Yes. Dh is currently bored of the US and is itching to live elsewhere. The restrictions of medicine is what is keeping us here. I would love to live In another place. Would prefer a first world country however.

                    4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?

Top 3: Seattle, San Diego, Portland. Bottom 3: anywhere small, Deep South, Dakotas/Wyoming etc. I prefer an urban, mostly norther attitude, mostly walkable non-hot local.

                      1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?

13 (also counting all dorm moves as 1). 4 for medicine.

                      2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?

Dream location would be a villa in Italy. Doubt that will ever happen.

                      3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?

Yes, I've lived in other countries and would do it again in a heartbeat. Any place not considered Third World will work. I like electricity and indoor plumbing too much.

                      4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?

                      Top: NYC, DC, SF
Bottom: any place south or southwest, I can't stand the heat.

                        1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?
                        18. Only 1 for medicine so far so DH could do his post-bacc. We'll be moving this summer so he can start M1.

                        2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?
My dream location involves the West Coast, so definitely do not live there now since we're in North Carolina. I'm not sure we'll ever make it back. I guess we'll find out when he goes through the Match.

                        3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?
Sure, for a few years. I'd love the chance to explore a new culture, but I'd want to make it back to the States to be near family.

                        4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?
                        1. San Diego (home!)
                        2. San Francisco (second home!)
                        3. Huntington Beach or some other smaller coastal city. Just not Los Angeles.

                        I'm cheating and doing regions:
                        1. Midwest. Can't deal with that sort of weather. Snow and tornadoes? Nope.
                        2. Northeast. Way too expensive and cold.
                        3. Deep South. Humidity is my worst nightmare.

I have lived in Scotland, Norway and Egypt in addition to traveling to several other countries. If we don't match in the States we're likely moving to a Gulf Arab state to continue practicing medicine.

Top Three: LA, San Francisco, San Diego - because I've always wanted to live in California and I like these cities the best, but lately my eye has been on Northern California.

                            1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?

Just counting moves between cities (not moves within the same city): 8, soon to be 9. 3 (soon to be 4) moves due to medicine/military.

                            2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?

Not sure about dream location. But, it's definitely not here. I really did like So Cal because of the weather. I could see myself there in the future.

                            3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?

Realistically, no. It's too far from my family.

                            4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?

If weather were not a factor, I'd choose as my top city: Madison, WI. But, with the weather factored in, I can't do it. Honestly, I'm having a really hard time picking. I loved Boston when I lived there, but I don't want to live there now. I prefer more drivable cities, particularly with kids. Plus, the cost of living is too high.

Bottom cities: anything in the South, with the exception of Florida.

                              1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?

I've moved 4 times -- 3 were due to medicine.

                              2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?

My dream location is ideally in the Northwest no more than an hour from Seattle. Yes I live there now. It took the second out of training job however and two out of state moves.

                              3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?

Realistically, no. It's too far from my family and it's not my thing. Early on in training I considered it but it didn't work out.

                              4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in?

A city that has a smallish feel that is no more than 60 minutes away from Seattle, Portland, Bend OR (Maybe)

                              Bottom cities:
anything in the South or big cities on the east coast -- I'd also like to rule out the midwest like Minneapolis -- too cold and I've been there, done that.

QOTW: Jan 31- Living, Moving, and Placed

                                1. How many times have you moved in your lifetime? How many of those moves were due to medicine?

Moved 8-9 times. Only moved once since marriage (from apartment to our house). Never moved for medicine.

                                2. If you know, where is your dream location to live? Do you live there now? If not, do you envision living there in the future?

In the historic downtown of the bigger suburb north of us or on some land in the rural town between our suburb and the one we want to live in.

                                3. Would you realistically consider living in a foreign country? Why or why not?

Not likely, but I'll go wherever DH says we need to go. But he doesn't speak any foreign languages so I don't see us leaving.

                                4. In your current country, what do you think are the top 3 cities you would want to live in? What are the bottom 3? Why?

                                Dallas, Austin, St. Louis
