I would lend or borrow anything from most neighbors. We have people borrow stuff all the time and vice versa.

Would you ever borrow something from your neighbor

If it's my neighbor across the street or my sister (around the corner and down the street), sure. Anytime and anything. Heck, during residency, the neighbor across the street sent her husband to mow the lawn for us. I would also lend to the priest two doors down.

I would totally lend/borrow with two neighbors out of 5. Both couples are retired teachers and are super nice.
In all our NYC apartments it would have never occurred to me to do so. 99% of the time I didn't even know their names or what they looked like. I think it all really boils down to how well you know your neighbors and how friendly the area tends to be in general.

I have borrowed and lent foods- onions, garlic, eggs. Not sure if I would borrow/lend something bigger and less replaceable. It would depend on the person.Wife to Hand Surgeon just out of training, mom to two lovely kittys and little boy, O, born in Sept 08.

(A funny: our parish, in the next suburb, also has an associate pastor with the same first name from the same African country)
