It's a terrible story - but kids don't make decisions well and sometimes don't have a grasp on mortality. I'm not sure they "get" that death is permanent.
I'm reminded about the movie of the two teens that killed someone together as a solution to their problem. In the movie the characters were oddly disconnected from what they had done. The girls went to prison and after release,one has gone on to be a famous mystery writer. You'd never guess she bludgeoned her friends mother to death at 15. So, maybe they can rehabilitate her?

I think she needs to be carefully evaluated by mental health experts to determine if she has some disorder or if she's just made a terrible choice at a young age.
