I know we have talked about tipping before and I am totally on board with the fact that you should tip your waitstaff since they make less than minimum wages. However, I just saw a chart that said I should also tip between 15-20% to my hairstylist, massage therapists, taxi driver, mani/pedi person and animal groomer. Whaaaaat? Do these people make less than minimum wage too?
I f-ing hate tipping. Not because I am cheap but because it makes no sense to me. I should tip my dog groomer but not my plumber/electrician/handyman. I should tip my massage therapist but why not my physical,therapist/acupuncturists/chiropractor too? Why should I tip the cab driver 20% (unless s/he has totally gone waaaay beyond the call of duty)? I get that my hair stylists has to pay overhead and that what I pay her is not all profit. Sooo, why not just charged me more? No one tips me for doing the j-o-b I was hired to do. If I go beyond the call of duty, I get an email/card maybe some cookies, etc.
Ughhhh. Maybe I should have just posted this on the rant page - sorry folks.
How do you rationalize all the tipping?
