My mom did this to us once. LOL. We are also in the situation where the furniture etc that we have couldn't be donated. It's unfortunately broken beyond repair. Gabby has chewed things or they have broken in places that make them no longer fixable.

I imagine if I went through things carefully that I could find some things to donate and I may do that for select items. For the most part though I just want to start over. My dream is to walk into an empty house. Then no one could mess it up! I'll settle for getting rid of the stuff that's broken.

We've done it but our huge roll-off from waste management was only $350 for an entire month. $750 seems like too much. I agree with Got Junk or College Hunks, might be cheaper and less labor.

I don't know if you can put stuff that large into a Bagster (the link above) but definitely would be very cathartic.

Yes, 750 is way too high. We've never paid that for a dumpster.

FIL did a Bagster when he recently removed an old shed on their property. It was great, and I think he paid less than $350 for two of them. Plus he scheduled with them when to come and pick up the bags, I think? Get one of them if you are worried about the neighbors, it seems less intrusive to me.

The Bagster looks like such a great option. I checked online and they don't seem to have it in our area.

The dumpster is outrageously expensive IMO. The cheapest we could find was just over 600.

I'm having second thoughts. I don't know if we have enough stuff to justify doing it. I think I'll go through each room of the house/garage and write down what I would throw away.

Can you clear out a space in the garage and carry everything out there as you clean out rooms, then decide at the last minute how to dispose of it?

Could you rent a truck from a general contractor (just post on CL) and do a dump run?

We've found people in the past in the local pennysaver(?) who come over, load up, and do whatever with your crap. The people I've used say they salvage what they can and take the rest to the dump.

Doesn't it feel amazing to get rid of stuff? We're about halfway through our house. K set up 3 areas: freecycle, SA, and trash. I'm loving the clean and organized spaces.

This is the best part about moving so frequently. I get to completely empty my house on a regular basis and get rid of junk.

Be careful! 1-800 got junk is a scam. They come to your house with a dumpster and a quote and then look around and then tell you "xyz (for us it was brick) is actually an exception and will cost you triple the quote." That's how we ended up paying $1200 instead of $400. Once the dumpster truck is there and you're ready for the haul away and have landscapers coming the next day to start, you're stuck. And we were stuck.

Also, with a dumpster, your neighbors will treat it Iike a free-for-all. It magically fills overnight with other people's garbage!

Good point, do you have a neighborhood list serve? Could you share it amongst neighbors?
