My ILs gifts us this advent calendar a few years ago.

Ours is not personalized.
Today I gave them gold chocolate coins with a question (what were the three gifts that the wise men brought baby Jesus?). I was trying to tie in the gold coins. They really like the question so I think I need keep that up.
Tomorrow is Christmas chapsticks. I also have Christmas pencils for writing a letter to Santa to mail to the North Pole. Some other nights include drinking hot cocoa and looking at lights, watching elf and string popcorn and cranberries, watching grinch with a movie scavenger list, s'mores on the fireplace, shopping and wrapping gifts for adopt-a-family, scripting and acting out the Christmas story for parents, putting together a Christmas music show for parents, baking cookies for neighbors, tcby card and night of frozen yogurt, Christmas home manis and pedis, make peanut brittle for grandparents, and some other ones.
I need more giving ideas that I can do with young kids and not go crazy.-Ladybug

We buy the chocolate ones from Trader Joe's, and distribute them as gifts. We keep 3 for ourselves. ☺️

Every year we do the Lego Advent calendar. They put out a new edition. It is super-expensive--$40. Ugh. But, the kids just love it...it is worth it. They listen patiently through the reading or story and get engaged (because they don't want to "blow it" and miss out on opening a new Lego gadget!

I made one this year with little paper envelopes hanging from red twine with mini clothes pins. The front of the envelope has the number and the back has a festive sticker. As the days go by we turn the envelope around that way it's easy for DS to see how many days are left. I have a piece of chocolate and add an activity to each one. Today we wrote a letter to Santa. Tomorrow we will do gingerbread houses. I'm still figuring out the rest of our activities but I pinned a bunch of stuff. I had to do a homemade calendar because DH is working Christmas so we are waiting till the 28th.

Advent calendars
I made this one a few years back with help from my mom.
I put a different "ornament" in the pocket each night so it's a surprise in the morning. Then, DD can hang the ornament on the calendar. I guess she'll have to start taking turns with DS soonWife to a urologist; Mom to 2 wonderful kiddos

We do an Advent wreath, although this year I am behind on getting my purple and pink candles. We also do the Jesse Tree and read this book each evening: http://www.amazon.com/The-Advent-Jes.../dp/1426712103 All the kids look forward to it every year.Tara

We include activities in our usual Advent calendar — watch Elf, bake cookies for a friend, write cards to the grandparents, look at Christmas lights, etc., and some days have chocolate coins.
