I love tasting menus, too! My biggest pet peeve is eating out something I can make myself (especially dishes I make well).

I don't think I am a true food snob. I do have high expectations when I try a trendy restaurant and have at times been disappointed when it hasn't lived up to the hype. However, the true joy in eating out for me is in the getting dressed up-ish, not having to cut someone else's food, not having to spend time in the kitchen, and not having to clean the kitchen. So, even a mediocre meal out is sometimes better than an excellent meal in.

Plus, I'd happily eat the shit out of a Pizza Hut pan pizza any given night. Pretty sure that bans me from the foodie club indefinitely.

I'm a food lover. I eat the ones I hate too.

My favorite dining experience is ordering chef tasting menus at really nice restaurants. I feel like I'm laying down a challenge - "Show me what you can do, chef!" It's almost always worth the price!
This is me, too. I love really good food and trying new things, but I totally downed the white American and pickled jalapeno dip I made on new years eve.

I do not think foodie is for only trendy, "gourmet", frou frou/expensive meals. Foodie means (IMHO) that you appreciate different flavors and are always willing to try the new. The opposite is my step-FIL. The man is content eating a made from frozen patty chicken fried steak and boxed potatoes along with iceberg lettuce. If I am going to be eating that, I want a hand breaded (well seasoned flour), good cut of meat, made to order with homemade mashed potatoes and a salad that contains an actual mix of multiple vegetables (more than lettuce & tomatoes) with a made from scratch buttermilk ranch or whatev. dressing...for example. I have also been known to partake in velveeta...it was a queso with smoked/roasted hatch chilies that was unlike anything I have ever tasted.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!
