I don't think I have ever spent more than $200 on any one article of clothing or pair of shoes. Certainly not on a purse. My wedding dress was off the rack, a sample size in a style that was being discontinued...$125 in 1989. Sure wish I wore that size now!

My wedding ring is probably the most expensive thing I own, and it stays with me. My dress was $100, and is a bridesmaid dress in ivory. 😄

Irreplaceable? My Spanish mantilla veil that I wore in my wedding. I lent it to my good friend, who just wore it in hers, and it was given to me as a wedding present from our mutual best friend. Very "of the traveling pants".

I have a bag of designer bags in our guest closet. It's shameful. I bought none of them... My MIL, DH, and one of my best friends buy me bags.

My wedding dress was about $300.

Really, maybe $150 for a special cocktail dress? I spend about $150 on running shoes every 6 months. :embarrassed: I rarely ever spend over $50 for anyone one item. On the other hand, I don't buy super cheap either because I prefer quality. I'm not into purses, scarves, jewelry.

My natural blonde hair costs $140 for cut and color every 8 weeks though. :yikes:

I think my wedding dress was somewhere around $250-300. Besides that, probably a couple dresses in the $100-150 range.

My wedding dress was around $500 bucks. I'm happy to shell out $150 for running shoes because my knees are so bad. I have a couple of pairs of dress shoes that were over $100, but less than $200.

Hmm... I think it was a pair of Joe's jeans I got from Nordstrom Rack several years ago. They were around $100 and I wore them for years. My mom bought my wedding dress for me.

I suppose the most expensive piece of clothing I bought that I don't get to wear is DH's Brooks Brothers suit. They were having a sale, he needed a suit for interviews, so we bit the bullet and got it. $600. He's worn it to a few things since and it really looks so good. He gets a bit of swagger with it, too.

Umm, I'm not going to admit how much my dress cost after reading this. It was my only splurge with my wedding though, which we had on a cruise with, 17 people in attendance. Other than that and jewelry, maybe a Coach purse?

Mine was more expensive than any that folks have specified so far. And it wasn't the only splurge, my wedding was a little bit nuts despite being a ceremony on a college campus and a reception at a brewery. Still regret being so careless with my parents' money, but they urged me to spare no expense. My guests had fun and so did I but it's all a blur for me, and the dress is just sitting in a box in my closet -- I never imagine it being worn again but it's probably way too out of date to get rid of it either.

Since then? I think my running shoes usually run about $100 but I haven't bought any in years (I'm currently running in some too-big Asics cross-trainers that I bought on sale at Zappos.) I bought a pair of $100 jeans last year. They're *so* flimsy and don't fit right. I'm never buying fashion jeans again. I'm actually in the middle of shopping online for some sturdy hiking pants, or maybe Carhartts.

Same here. In addition, I never want anything that is "the thing" to have or is walking advertisement. Why would I want to pay extra $$$ for something that everyone will know I how much I spent and be walking advertisement for the manufacturer/designer? No thanks.

Having said that, I have spent more than I care to admit for a pair of custom riding boots (before they were in-style) from a boot maker in a little town outside of Mendoza, Argentina. Also have two beautiful purses from a leather maker in Brazil and from some designer in Ireland. Paid more than I would in the US but I have yet to meet someone with a similar item and I get compliments all the time.

I also am a big fan of good underthings like socks and tees...smart wool, Ibex and Icebreaker. I know I pay waaaay more for socks, and tees but they last forever and are so worth it.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

See, I have some "expensive" things -- Frye boots that originally cost about $400, a Brahman bag that would have cost about $300 -- but I don't pay that much for them. The boots were about $130, heavily discounted with a coupon. I bought the bag for $35 at a resale shop.
