  • summer dreams?

It's coming up! How are you going to spend yours?

I'm going to be at the community pool and studying. I love summer and am thrilled that a new one is dawning! What about you?

Sigh. For some reason I feel like I *shouldn't* go on another vacation without DH (like I did last year. it was *kind of* a catastrophe). In his program they're not allowed to take any time in June or July, so that's out. Plus he hates flying, and since he'll be interviewing in the fall he has zero interest in getting on a plane this summer. Unless I get really antsy I'm going to try to stay here. Looking forward to getting back to the gym regularly. I'm doing a few different music camps / summer programs and have a smattering of chamber performances. So, the usual.

I'm going to be alone a lot. So, that's something to look forward to. DH will be on OBGYN for the latter half of June and all of July so...he'll miss my bday, our regular vacation to the beach for the 4th, and lots of other fun summer things that are going on. Oh, and plus the ONE friend I've made - like actual, really good, we-really-click, friend I've made since being here just moved to Annapolis for a new job. So now I don't even have a friend any more. Then in August he'll be on an away so he won't even be in the same state. He didn't even come home last night; I'm not happy right now.

Lots of lazy mornings and pool time for us, too. I cut way back on the camps I signed my kids up for this year bc I felt like we did too much running around last summer. Oh, and golf and tennis lessons for my boys.

DH and I are taking an adults-only week-long trip to Paris in June (eeeee!), and we'll take a long-weekend family trip to the beach with some good friends in July.

        Love summer ...

          MOVING!

I'm done with my full-time work in the last week of June, and DH has the last week pretty much off (except for one easy shift on the 30th). First half of July is the move, then we'll settle in for a couple weeks, then DH and I both start work again in early August. It'll be crazy, but good, I think.

Graduation for DH, moving the first week of June, and then just lots of settling in, unpacking, and hopefully some decorating, gardening, and grilling. Just looking forward to a new place and meeting some new people.

Summer dreams: lazy afternoons at the pool, berry picking, tennis matches, neighborhood cook outs, homemade ice cream.
Summer reality: work, work, work in an over-air-conditioned office.

Summer is when I struggle most with being a grown up.

Lots of exciting stuff. Graduation, closing on our house (sale), trip to CA to look at rentals and preschools, MOVING, swim lessons, soccer camp, day trips to Napa with DH. I can't wait!

Summer is pretty much meaningless if you don't have kids and work full-time.

Yeeshk man, that sounds all kinds of bleak.
What about things like longer days, barbecue, the occasional holiday, etc.? Nothing?

Dreams: celebrating my anniversary with DH somewhere, in some capacity, sans kids. More veggies in the garden. Maybe a hammock?
Swimming lessons, splash pad, basically lots of "lazy parenting": park, beach, park, walks, park, rinse & repeat. 😄

First year of med school DONE next Friday.
I found a cheap beach apartment rental, so we're doing that for a week and we even get to bring the dog. Then we move at the end of June. DH is doing ortho research all summer and studying for the GMAT. I'll be working per usual, but trying to use some PTO so I can enjoy DHs relatively normal schedule. Can't wait!!

Ha! I forgot to add "dating a surgery resident" and "starting a new job and not being able to take time off" to my list of my this summer is just like any other season. Just more daylight hours to stare longingly out of the windows at work.

Also summer = wedding season. I've already been to five this year. Six more to go! My weekends/"vacations" are spent celebrating other people. It's fun and all, but these weddings are draining my bank account.

I love summer and all, but it's just like any other time of year...just warmer! And with baseball!
