I love my engagement ring--it's made up of a bunch of little diamonds and DH and I loved that it was very sparkly with a relatively flat profile. I never really wanted a solitaire.
It's also from Zales...and it sucks. In the 7 years I've had it, 8-9 smaller diamonds have fallen out. I do wear it every day, so I have sort of expected that I'd have some fall out. We bought the warranty plan and as long as it is inspected every 6 months (which is a PITA now that I have kids and a lot going on) Zales pays for any repairs.
At any rate, about 8 months ago, one of the small side diamonds fell out. I was past my 6 months date and didn't get a chance to get to the store until about 6 weeks ago. They sent it in to be repaired and since it was out of warranty, I had to pay (it wasn't too much) and now it is back under warranty now that it has been inspected. Except not even 48 hours after I got the ring back, the diamond fell out again. So I brought it back, they sent it off, I went in yet again and picked it up. 2 weeks later...another diamond. I'm starting to wonder what the hell they are doing to it while they repair it.
This is getting ridiculous--it hasn't had any major wear in the last 2.5 weeks total I've had it in my possession and it has lost 2 diamonds. At this point, they've said they would let me pick something else out, but I'm not sure if it is for the amount DH paid back in 2007 or some other "current value." And...I really don't want to give up MY ring. It has sentimental value. DH doesn't want me to either. And I'm not really thrilled at the quality I've experienced from Zales now anyway.
What would you do? I've thought about taking it to another jeweler to see if they can "shore it up" but I'm not sure if that would actually help.

That would have been my preferred solution. They said it is because of the setting style and the prongs getting broken?
