DH did over 1,600 cases in residency! This podcast says they can only prove he was in 100!! 100!! I just am amazed that he graduated from what is a decent program.

I haven't listened to the follow up podcasts, but I kind of wonder if her not quite seeming to "get" the different phases of training could be part of this. Could she have looked at fellowship numbers and assumed that was for all of training since he was in the same place? Obviously the dude had no idea what he was doing, but just mulling.

The follow up says that UT claims he did 600ish but there’s no record of that.

And DH is robot proctored for his first few cases but not all the types of surgeries Dr Death was doing may require that.

Yes, his advisors were investors in his company. The most awkward part of the entire thing is the recorded phone call of his fellowship advisor basically saying that he cannot advise other hospitals that he’s not adequately trained even after it was brought to his attention that the guy was super dangerous.

I honestly hope they lose their residency certification or are severely censured. Programs need to graduate safe doctors. There is no way for the general public to know enough about training to select safe doctors otherwise.

Which follow up episode was this in? Last I heard nobody had disputed the 100 figure.

DH and I were talking about this not long ago. I'm not going to post details because it is a public forum, but I can think of at least 2 stories that made my eyes widen and both of these people are out there somewhere. I bet I'm not the only one. Definitely not at *this* level, though. (hopefully ha)

Oh there’s “one” in every program that (by definition) isn’t the awesomest. We all know that. But it sounds like he did so few cases that he was completely incompetent. Some of the mistakes (inserting bone screws directly into muscle over and over) defy logic for anyone with even basic surgical training.

I agree the last episode I heard they had subpoena'd the hell out of all levels and 100-ish cases was the only documentation they could get. Even 600 isn't enough in a 7 year residency! There have to be pockets to make these people whole, this is a complete break down of the system!

I read back and realized I repeated myself. I'm getting senile and old. I guess this is how you turn into your mother.

Right? I’m horrified sometimes. Once someone mentioned that it got better once they were in school. I think it made it worse for me....
