  • Paper, plastic, or cloth?

I used to use plastic bags when checking out. When I was in Germany, I got a bunch of neat cloth bags and used them for the first time at Walmart yesterday. The checkout guy sighed and then apologized. He said they were hard to load on their round bag thingy.

    What do you use?

I used to bring in my cloth ones, but then I got lazy. I do take my plastic ones back to the store to recycle, though.

We pretty much have to use cloth ones in California. I always forget that the rest of the country isn’t the same. It took me a while to get used to, but I really prefer my cloth bags now. I keep them in my car so I’m less likely to forget them at home.

They exist, but you’re charged for them per bag and it really incentivizes bringing your own cloth bags.

I exclusively use walmart grocery pick up so I'm stuck with plastic. But I recycle them at the store each time we go. I wish I could use paper or cloth but it isnt available with pick up and I will never shop in store again.

They started charging for plastic bags here this summer so I switched to cloth/reusable canvas. Took a couple of weeks to get used to but I won't go back.
I had no idea about CA until we went there 2 years ago.

Oregon now has no plastic bags, and charges for paper. My town has had a similar law for over two years. This is something stores with pickup and delivery service are having to cope with. At least one says that if they have time, they'll load them into your own containers, but if not, you have to take the paper bags and pay for them. I have a bunch of these bags in my car, in a compartment in the console, and have gotten good at remembering to bring them in to the store: https://flipandtumble.com/products/2...nt=23708876099

Wow! wash them! I never thought of that - mine must be a petri dish.

I also cloth diapered. Recently my dog had an “issue”, and I bought cloth for her, too!

I did cloth diapers mostly because I was too lazy to go to the store regularly and buy them. And...about half the time, I get bags at the store because I'm too lazy to find another solution for kitty litter disposal and/or bathroom garbage can liners.

BUT, I'm really trying to decrease my plastic use this year, plus I anticipate a bag ban can't be too far away, so I'm trying to get those reusable bag habits solid. What I need is a good solution for produce. Anyone have produce bags they really like?

I really like the cloth bags from Fresh Market. They are a good size and they have a flat bottom like a paper supermarket bag.
