Supposedly some things will start opening up in California within a few weeks, but I’m not sure if much will change about our personal situation once they do. Still no school. Still wearing masks. I can’t imagine eating inside a restaurant, so we’ll continue getting takeout. Our governor has said hair salons and gyms won’t be opening up for “months,” so no kids karate classes either.
Currently looking into private swim lessons for my youngest this summer, and weighing the dangers of drowning vs getting coronavirus. I’m really not sure what the right answer is.

Thomas and his colleagues were removed from production when corona started. They were given a monthly salary that meant a slight paycut for us. Ironically, Thomas’ production has never been higher. We lose that money. Today, we were told that every physician in the hospital will take a 20% cut through December at least. Physicians currently furloughed are being paid but lose the 20%. Specialists working overtime are being subjected to the same treatment. Since Thomas’ salary is no longer RVU based, he has decided to cancel most of his clinic patients. He will also not be working past 5 or on weekends anymore. I told him I thought he was being silly. Everyone is losing pay. He’s just so pissed that he’s working so hard right now and they are cutting his pay. Sigh. I’m so sick of all of this.

My effing idiot husband. He comes home from work, where people are literally dying of covid. The kids beg him to let them ride bikes while I’m folding laundry. He takes them out. I come downstairs and they are eating dinner from the neighbor’s “socially distanced buffet” where roughly 30 people and their kids are using the same serving utensils and K1 is sitting the driveway with 2 boys on either side of him, all of them with their heads together trading Pokémon cards. WTF. I am killing myself to entertain them in isolation and the minute he gets home he just ignores everything.

How often do you get close to other people when walking? Living rurally, I don't worry at all about masks when exercising outdoors. If there's another person out walking, we give them a decently wide berth (cross the street or take another route). This happens about once per walk.

We live in a development with a lake nearby with a 1/2mi loop. There were probably 20-30 people out today walking, playing, or jogging in different directions.

I live on a pond with a 1/2 mile loop. A lot of people are out walking and no one wears a mask. When we see someone coming, we all distance ourselves and say hello. After there is a safe distance, we get back on the path. I don’t care about my neighbors though. They’re having multi-family barbecues, groups of kids play together outside, and one hosted a dinner party. If they get it, tough luck. I’ve had it, so I’m not a risk to them.

Have you confirmed you had it? There are antibody tests in our area now and I’ve talked to a few people who were sure they had it find out that they have no antibodies. They “had” it before there were enough tests to qualify for testing.

No. I was going to, but my doctor said they aren’t totally accurate. Thomas says to do it. I just frankly don’t care enough right now. I have other things to worry about.

Our state just opened the floodgates. Zero restrictions. Leaving everything up to individual business owners.

I know! I’m very anxious. I really think that a consistent, uniform plan created with science and medical advise is important. This is a matter of public health which shouldn’t be governed by individual opinions or politics.

In NJ it is still crazy. Everyone I have seen in my area is wearing a mask and doing well with social distancing, but apparently that is not the case everywhere. Our ICU was overwhelmed at one point, but doing better now. Still a lot of cases here. I am close to reaching the point of "if you won't wear a mask and follow the effing recommendations, you are not allowed medical care". I know that is unrealistic and very crappy, but I am about done with the selfishness and ignorance.

I’m really anxious now that things are opening up here so rapidly without any restrictions.

I signed the kids up for swim practice because I was assured that there would be only 4 kids per class (so 3 of the kids in the class would be mine) and only 2 classes in the pool area at a time. No locker rooms. Kids arrive in swimming suits, get in the pool, when they’re done, I’d wrap them in towels and put them right back into my car to shower at home. I’m comfortable with that.

I was also gradually becoming comfortable taking them to parks and outdoor attractions provided that the venue enforced safety protocols. I would have been cool with visiting our neighborhood pool at less crowded times provided that we bring our own chairs/towels to sit on and large rafts that the kids all climb and roughhouse on would be prohibited. Now, the neighbors (who already flout pool rules about alcohol and whatnot) are demanding unrestricted access to the pool exactly as they would have been allowed last summer.

Now everything is just open and it’s at the discretion of business owners. Business owners are desperate to get back to work. They can pack their venues if they want. They can force sick employees to come into work. They don’t have to employ extra sanitizing procedures. There is no legal support for businesses who want consumers to observe safety protocols; people just won’t because they don’t want to.

So, now I’m unsure that I want to go to some of the attractions I wanted to take the kids to visit are open without restriction. At the same time, my kids are desperately bored and lonely. The health measures that were previously put in place, made me feel more comfortable venturing out but now I feel like an agoraphobic germophobe.

                                What is reasonable?
