We have an SUV with a third row seating recently purchased for the cause of the 3rd child and transporting extra people in the third row when we need the room. Our previous car became a money pit and we didn't want to upgrade to a third row in two years with another kid so we took the plunge now. I was afraid to drive such a large vehicle, but you get used to it. I am cautious about parking. We take road trips in it and the space is nice. It doesn't have the capts chairs and we haven't used the third row often, but the extra space in the back for groceries, furniture and strollers has been nice. Kristen you asked about the DVD. I would say for us it is definitely worth it. My 3yr old has been much easier to travel with since owning it. We take short road trips to visit family often (once a month as of lately) and have used it for a couple long road trips and it has been a nice distraction. I don't allow her to watch movies while traveling in town. We have even used it when we have had several short errands to run so we don't have to get kids in and out of the car. We pop a movie in, bring snacks and DH and I take turns staying with the kids. It has worked out nice.

We had one car for a while during fellowship, before kids. DH and I worked in the same place so it wasn't too hard, but definitely more convenient when we got a second vehicle. We had to leave our 2nd car in Ohio when we moved because it wouldn't have made the trip. The 1988 camry with almost 200K miles on it served us well. We will always have fond memories of it.

No plans as of yet, Sue! We will wait at least another year to decide about a third baby. Although I am getting baby yearnings since Ella is no longer an infant. I meant my post about the poop. My 3 year old is serving as good birth control right now.

We have survived med school and residency on one car. Then again we have had a great access to public transportation and dh rides his bike when the weather is nice. We have 2 kids in an Oldsmobile Alero. They are seated on the outboard (passenger and driver sides of the car), as to not torture each other.

We have 5 months left until our car is paid off. I told dh if we could hold off until next November before buying another car, I would be in seventh heaven. We will most likely have a second car by Apr 2006, and will most likely be a mini-van or an SUV.

So we were going to get an SUV with third row seating but I just really dont want to spend that much. I am leaning now towards the Passat Wagon. The word is that it can fit three car seats in the back seat. I really want to get the diesel so we could possibly try biodiesel but dont think we can afford that either.

There are some awesome deals on ebay. Has anyone ever thought about buying a car on ebay? :auto:

I was just talking to my cousin about this today! He was very enthusiastic about cars on Ebay. But....I don't want that to really sound like an endorsement, either. He's more of a risk-taker with that sort of thing than I am. Apparently, it can be very lucrative to buy cars at auction or post-lease and then resell on Ebay. Good deal for buyer and seller.

I have been able to get 3 carseats in the back of a Passat Wagon without too much trouble. I think it's a good choice for a wagon.
