We have an SUV with a third row seating recently purchased for the cause of the 3rd child and transporting extra people in the third row when we need the room. Our previous car became a money pit and we didn't want to upgrade to a third row in two years with another kid so we took the plunge now. I was afraid to drive such a large vehicle, but you get used to it. I am cautious about parking. We take road trips in it and the space is nice. It doesn't have the capts chairs and we haven't used the third row often, but the extra space in the back for groceries, furniture and strollers has been nice. Kristen you asked about the DVD. I would say for us it is definitely worth it. My 3yr old has been much easier to travel with since owning it. We take short road trips to visit family often (once a month as of lately) and have used it for a couple long road trips and it has been a nice distraction. I don't allow her to watch movies while traveling in town. We have even used it when we have had several short errands to run so we don't have to get kids in and out of the car. We pop a movie in, bring snacks and DH and I take turns staying with the kids. It has worked out nice.
We had one car for a while during fellowship, before kids. DH and I worked in the same place so it wasn't too hard, but definitely more convenient when we got a second vehicle. We had to leave our 2nd car in Ohio when we moved because it wouldn't have made the trip. The 1988 camry with almost 200K miles on it served us well. We will always have fond memories of it.
