    spouses' group?

    Ha ha ha ha ha.

I'm sure that such an animal exists out there somewhere. Not at this program. I think that most general surgery programs' take on physician families are akin to that of the Marine Corps: If the powers-that-be wanted you to have a family, they would have issued you one during Basic Training.

But then again, I'm just a tired, cynical wife of a Fifth Year General Surgery resident. I'm the first to admit that my perspective is not representative of everyone's experience.

I hope that you do find a supportive program.

      Hi everyone!
In Sacramento, we have a group called Medical Center Associates. Luckily, very motivated people put this little group together and it seems to be quite fun. There are activities for adults and for parents with children. Picnics, dinners, b-fast, playgroups, spa days etc. I see them at least once a month and there are plenty more opportunities that I have yet to take part in. There is a helping hands network that provides assistance, meals etc to those "spouses in need" like when a new baby comes to town. The problem is, the hospital doesn't promote it and I didn't even know it existed until our second year! The information on it went straight to my already overwhelmed DH and it got lost in all the other paperwork. Needless to say, I was pretty upset (can we say LIVID) with him after spending nearly an entire year alone, wondering why there wasn't a group of people like me! DUH!
I try to stay as involved as possible because no one "on the outside" every seems to even remotely relate. So I do my best to not complain on deaf ears and have a life outside of being a medical spouse....and then vent during the group activities! MMM....they must love the poor whining wife of a surgeon to be!
