Is anyone else just really overwhelmed by the victim/survivor news still coming in about the Tsunami. I heard one report that when all is said and done that the death toll may reach as high as 400,000. That was several days ago, and I don't know if its been changed, but the current toll (well over 100,000) is just shocking. I watched the story of a mom who had to choose between her children. She had two with her and had to choose which one to let go of in order to save herself and one child. She had a 4 and a 2 year old and decided to let go of the 4 year old. The 4 year old miraculously survived but I can't help wondering the effect that making that choice will have on both the mom and the little boy!

It really makes you realize how good we have it, and how much we should be grateful for what we do have. It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day struggles that we all have...This certainly puts things into perspective!

I go back and forth between not wanting to watch the coverage at all because it is so depressing, to reading everything I can about it. The pain in the eyes of the survivors that I've seen photographs of is really heart-wrenching. I saw the headline about the woman who had to choose between her two sons and I purposely didn't read it because I had a feeling it was a story I wouldn't be able to shake. I'm glad to hear the child she had to let go of ended up surviving. Anyhow, I am pleased that despite being half a world away, people over here seem really moved by what has happened.

I think the reality of the whole thing just hasn't sunk in yet with me. I can't even comprehend that many people being gone. I've heard stories of entire families/villages being lost and of people searching for their lost spouses and children....I just can't even imagine what these people are going through. One man just returned to the US even though his wife is still one of the missing. And people searching through rows upon rows of bodies looking for loved ones...it's just unimaginable. The goodness of people does seem to be coming out through all of this gloom and I am thankful for that.
