  • Six Degrees of Separation

I'm kind of a geek about this, but we have some good ones between dh and I. List some of your top "within 6 degrees" here ... and we'll see who we can connect. Here's my best:

DH's uncle sat on Gandhi's lap (lived in the same commune).

My grandfather met the Queen of England during WWII

My friend's military husband flew Condi Rice to Afghanistan, while another friend of theirs flew Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey (who had the cooler "cargo"?)

My former roommate interned at "The Tonight Show" (Jay Leno era), which connects a LOT.

My cousin worked on "Unsolved Mysteries" and met Robert Stack (old Hollywood) and Keely Shay Smith (married to Pierce Brosnan) several times.

She (my cousin) also worked for Dorthea and Donald Petrie, Donald directed Sydney Poitier and Jack Lemmon, and their son wrote Beverly Hills Cop, and produced Miss Congeniality.

My close friend from childhood interviewed Donald Trump in his office (not a reporter pool)

.... there are more, but let's see who we connect in the meantime

Pathetic note: NONE of these are my personal experience ... ALL are depending on relatives or friends for the connection.

My famous connection is that I had college classes with Raef Lafrentz who now plays basketball for the Celtics (I think he is still with them).

My non-famous seperation story is that my DH's grandfather worked for my great grandfather right after the war and we didn't know this until we'd been dating for about six months. Keep in mind this wasn't in a small town, this was in Wichita, KS which was a pretty good size city back then.

As for connecting with your seperations...I think the closest I can come is that I was in London right after the Queen Mum died...not very close!

I've met Hillary Clinton but that is about it. And the *$*# DNC never sent the photo as they were supposed to so no proof.

Lyle Lovett used to visit my dad's business when he was in town on tour.

There might be others but I am never good at remembering this sort of thing!

See - but these are good! Hillary Clinton connects you to EVERYONE in Washington and all of the world's super-powers ... she's met them all, so you're 2 handshakes away. As for Lyle Lovett, he was married to Julia Roberts and knows all sorts of musicians, stars, etc. - so if your Dad met him, then you're 3 handshakes away from all of those folks.

Mine's not all that impressive, but what the heck.

My high school drama teacher went to school with Kate Capshaw, who is married to Steven Spielberg.

I can't think of any! DH is related to Ernie Pyle. I am not interesting!

Jennifer! If that person you knew flew Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson to Iraq, did they have anything to add about the status of their marriage? Gossip I know!

              Let's see:

              Mine are mostly political:

Hastert owns the house four houses away (his chief of staff lives there now)
My cousin used to work for Tammy Baldwin, rep from Wisc. (I actually did meet her once)
My neighbor Tim is a Secret Service agent who protects all of the out of town dignitaries
Greta Van Susteren just bought a house on the same island as my parents. (opposites ends though)
Joeseph Lieberman's limo driver almost ran over all of the Stroller Strides ladies (and yes, he WAS in the limo)
Hillary Clinton, Lieberman, Rockefeller, Mayor Williams, and a bunch of other dems were all on a the Sequoia (the former Presidential boat til Carter sold it) having a party while we ate at one of our favorite restaurants.
One of the Stroller Strides ladies husband works for Hastert
Another SS lady worked for Rep. McKeon who is the Rep. from California who is helping us deal with the Army.

              Personal:
My grandmother double-dated with Gene Kelly
My Great Uncle ran the R & R during WWII and served MacArthur and Eisenhauer and all of the other biggies- he ran the O Club in Germany where they all hung out while going to and fro.
Mike Ditka cheated off my dad in some college science class, dad was a freshman, Ditka was a senior and needed it to graduate.
My husband insists that he made out with Natalie Merchant one NYEve in LA.

              Jenn

PS- I'm sure I have more, that's off the top of my head.

At Mr. Whitekey's Fly-By-Night Club, they call it Minor Celebrity. During the Springtime in Spenard performance, they ask everyone in the audience to write down their six-degrees-esque connection to fame. The top three get to come on stage to tell their detailed story and the audience votes for the best one.

I was one of the top three with "My brother puked on Julie Andrews' lawn."

Oh, and my favorite physics professor dated some famous singer in the sixties. I want to say it was Joan Baez.

I have mostly minor players.....but I guess *they* might have better connections.

My mom worked with the guy who played Father Mochahey on MASH; he used to get tipsy and play the piano and sing at our house when I was little.

I was in a coed frat with Dan Futterman (played in Judging Amy and the Birdcage). We were actually friends and flirted with more. Great guy.

DH worked with Nicole Kidman's doc and cared for Kathy Ireland at Hopkins.

In NYC in the 1980s, I was a club kid for a year or two --I partied with Boy George a lot and had a drink with Bruce Willis at the China Club. I also met Mick Jagger - but was so awestruck I couldn't speak. I put make up on with Paulina Porkizova (a lesson in humility) and met her husband Ric Ocasek from the Cars.

                  *sigh* I miss my youth.....
                  Angie
Gyn-Onc fellowship survivor - 10 years out of the training years; reluctant suburbanite
Mom to DS (18) and DD (15) (and many many pets)

"Where are we going - and what am I doing in this handbasket?"

I only have 1 - when I was in grade school they filmed the movie 'a date with an angel' at our church and I got a kiss on the cheek from Michael E. Knight.
Cranky Wife to a Peds EM in private practice. Mom to 5 girls - 1 in Heaven and 4 running around in princess shoes.

none of these are too impressive, but here goes...

I have a picture of Alice Cooper and myself from the Frankfort airport. I was 17 at the time and didn't even know who he was. My fellow travelers were like, ohh...there is Alice Cooper so I had a picture made. This kind of gives me a Wayne and Garth coolness.

I shook Colin Powel's hand before he was a national figure and Gloria Steniem signed books two feet away from me at a cafe where I used to work.

My grandmother said (and I'm not entirely sure that this is accurate) that we are related to Jefferson Davis somehow. I'm sure that we have a lot of other family members involved with the law, just not on the right side of it.

Wow, these are fun to read! I just have a few that I can think of right now....

One of my friends dated Emilio Estevez for about 2 1/2 or 3 years and lived with him at his house in Malibu. She recorded her first album in his home recording studio.

Another friend ate lunch next to Kevin Bacon and a movie director (not sure who he was) at Ago and listened in as they discussed a new film script. She was texting me throughout lunch with the play by play details.

My sister has met Chris Botti (hottie) several times and he asked her if he could use some of the photos she has taken of him on his website. She has also met Sting, Josh Groban, and Celine Dion. My sister is always in the right place at the right time!

My aunt & uncle hung out with Clooney and some other members of the cast of Ocean's Twelve when part of the movie was being filmed in their neighborhood. Their house was almost selected as the house where Clooney and Roberts were hiding out, but they weren't done in time with their remodeling project.

DH's aunt dated Mark McGwire in high school.

My dad ran into Leonardo DiCaprio & Giselle as they were making out in a men's restroom...yuck!

I used to work with a pro beach volleyball player and we would hang out with his other AVP buddies after work.

I worked with the girl that won all of the money on that "For Love or Money Show" on NBC a few years back, Erin Brodie. Her dad is football great John Brodie and her BIL is tennis coach Larry Stefanski.

My former boss lives next to one of Tiger Woods vacation houses and would have coffee with him at The Coffee Bean when he was in town.

I met Ron Howard when I was giving some of our relatives a tour around town. I guess he has been vacationing here for the last 29 years.

My friend got hit in the thigh by Vijay Singh's ball at this year's US Open. We made it on tv...I stick out like a sore thumb because I was 9 months pregnant at the time.

I have a few more that I can't think of right now....my former boss was really into the whole "in crowd" thing back in LA so he knew & dated everybody. And DH cared for several actors and athletes during med school while working at UCLA and Cedars....unfortunately I can't go into details...but boy do I have some juicy gossip on who he ran into while on his plastic surgery rotation!

Um...Here are some suitable for Halloween:

Dh went to high school with Charles Manson's son.
Jeffery Dahmer's mom lived in my hometown at one point.
My SIL's dad had a party and Manson and his gang showed up and they kicked him out because he was a freak and the girls were talking to the walls
Some of my half-sibs ancestors' graves were desecrated by Ed Guine.

I'm from WI, what do you want?

I knew this would be fun! Here's a few more I thought of:

I met Tori Amos after a concert.

                            My bil met Marc Cohn

My friend has met Steve Ballmer (2nd in command at Microsoft).

Another good friend was friends with David Spade before he was famous, he used to borrow her car to get to gigs. She also dated a guy who was best friends with Robin Ventura (player for the Mets).

The friend who interviewed Trump also knew Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails before he was famous (he's from Akron, which is south of Cleveland).

That's all I can remember at the moment.

I remembered a couple obscure ones. My dad's wife is great friends with the drummer from Skid Row and I met him at their wedding. I shopped with Reggie Miller (former Indiana Pacer) at Costco. I used to teach gymnastics to Reggie Sander's daughter (when he was a Cincinnati Red) and I petted Brad Pollard's (Indiana Pacer) dog at a park near our house. DH took care of a former Minnesota Viking's twins. The guy was bipolar and threatened to slit my throat when he was in college.
