  • What common foods don't you like?

I think this topic deserves it's own thread. Since many of us seem not to like or even hate very commonly liked foods, we should all come out of the food closet together. That way nobody is going to get stoned or tomatoed. For the record, I just spent good 10 minutes picking out raisins out of Trader Joe's cranberry [and nuts] mix.

    Food I just don't get:
    cookies
    cakes
    chocolate
    meatloaf
    chili
    PJ sandwiches

Food that I hate (refuse to eat and will pick out from already prepared dishes):
    raisins
    pecans
    walnuts
    eggplant

Watermelon. It's one of those foods that I can't eat at all. I've never liked it.

    Honeydew melon. Yuck.

Squash. I don't hate it as much as watermelon, but it's up there.

        I've never met a food I didn't like.

        Sigh.......

You all can just send the things you don't like my way. I can't really think of much.

I don't care too much for meat straight-up, particularly red meat. If it is part of a dish, that is fine. I don't avoid it as a vegetarian would. I just don't like it much -- probably from years of being a vegetarian, I guess. I'll have a bite of steak if DH orders one in a restaurant, a strip (or two ) of bacon, but not a steak or hamburger all to myself.

I do not like truffles (not the chocolate kind!!!!!). Pregnancy ruined them for me.

              Things that are horrific:

Sea Urchin- sushi- looks like ass, smells like ass, tastes like dead ass.

              Okra- slimy and gross

Scotch, Whiskey, Dark rum, etc- gross.

Ok, you got me with the sea urchin sushi. I can't even try it -- get close, but nope.

Most of the time I would agree about the scotch. But dark rum and okra, yup, down the hatch.

Thanks Heidi! I was afraid I would have to admit that sea urchin sushi wouldn't happen here either. But, clearly, Jenn isn't playing by the rules! Naughty Jenn!

                      Things I really don't like:

fish (I like seafood - shrimp, crab, lobster, scallops)
                      mussels
                      lima beans
                      brussel sprouts
                      asparagus
fried eggs, poached eggs, boiled eggs
raisins or other dried fruits (except cranberries, better dried)
                      beer
                      wine
                      black coffee
                      raw blueberries
                      raw mushrooms
                      raw carrots
                      pretzels
anything spcier than your average medium store salsa

Wow, that list is longer than I thought. Maybe I should stop giving dh so much shit about beans and avacados.

I'll eat anything. I actually did eat sea urchin and probably would not get it again. I spent a month and went to six countries (Japan, China, Malaysia, Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand) and I have no idea what I ate most of the time. My absolute favorite wash Thailand, the best food in the world. My philosophy was don't ask until the meal is over.

anything that was formerly a swimmer, except for tuna salad (trying to branch out on this, but it's slow and painful).
                          green beans
                          lima, wax, -- those kinds
                          cooked carrots
                          cooked bell peppers
                          cooked peas
                          blue cheese
                          black licorice
