Yup. As much as I liked Alison's emoticon
            Pfft! Go Ecuador!
            , Germany has prevailed.

I liked that other emoticon, too. (Becks - YUMMY!) I have to assume they do the same kind of shading / airbrushing on men as they do women. Some of those "curves" simply CANNOT be real. (Fainting emoticon here, please).

Gotta love Beckham. Side note: Did any of you see that movie BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM?

Dh is bouncing off the walls. I was hoping Ecuador would get at least one goal today. Weren't you? The German team is big. 6'4"-6'5"? How in the world do you get beyond a huge wall like that?

Hey guys: same time, same place on Thursday?!

P.S. When I was in Germany back in high school Klinsmann was still a player. Boy do I feel old...

Yes, gotta love Beckham. Although I have to say I'm shocked he's still with Posh Spice. *shivers* Bend it like Beckham was a really cute movie.

I'm bad but I admit that I lost all hope a few minutes into the game. The Ecuadorians had no energy and they seemed very distracted. Where with Poland and Costa Rica they always had space to pass the ball, in this game the Germans were on them like white on rice. Good for them, they deserved it.

I just talked to my mil and told her that Ecuador actually beat Poland and Costa Rica better than the Germans did. They have nothing to be ashamed of!

                      Soca Warriors

My husband and I are big football fans and this World Cup is extremely special to us because for the first time our home country, Trinidad & Tobago, qualified for the World Cup. Unfortunately we will not be going on to the second round. But our Soca warriors made a good showing and we are so proud of them. We are the smallest country to make it to the World Cup. Now that Trinidad is out we will be supporting Brazil. Brazil plays football with such skill and flare. It is just a joy to watch them play. We also like Argentina.

I watched the T/T match against England. They played very well. Honestly, I couldn't believe England didn't score for so long. Great defense! I'm sorry they won't advance, but Brazil is sure to make a good showing. It's Brazil, after all. (They're my son's favorite after USA.)

My students must think I'm nuts about soccer... I've given them the task of reporting on soccer players. Country, position, interesting personal tidbits (we're practicing how to say names of countries, languages, etc. in German). I gave them obscure players from various countries around the world. They seemed to be excited because when I put the cards (with names) out on a table they raced to get a card. One guy tripped over another guy's backpack and was miffed that he got the last card... They were face-down, mind you. It wasn't until they flipped over their own card that they could see whom they got. Oh to be in college again...

Dh and I have to get up early to watch the games. Sigh. How did I get roped into this? I'm too competitive.

Until I read this, I thought your students were much younger!

That wasn't a grab!!! Ugh. Penalty kicks.

I do have to admit that Ghana looks good.

                                Go USA!!
